Question about Dodge Ram
Hi community I have a 1999 dodge ram Laramie 5.2 with over three hundred thousand miles that was owned by my late father and it still runs great . It's really a great truck and he took very good care of it and now I'm trying to do the same .. I do the regular maintenance on it myself such as changing oil and plugs.the radiator started leaking and I put a new one in .. the gasket on the timing chain cover started leaking so I decided to do the whole job ,such as water pump , timing chain while I'm in there ...I took my time .made sure number one piston was up and the marks was lined up . Hooked everything back up topped it off with anti freeze... it cranked up on first try but ran rough ..check engine light came on after a few minutes . So I shut it off .. I then tried to crank it up but wouldn't turn over ..any advice would be appreciated .than you in advance
I would say it's a pretty sure bet that you somehow got the valve timing wrong when you installed the new chain. I assume that you had a good service manual to take you through the exact installation procedure - if not, you should. Its just one of those things that is very easy for a first timer to screw up and its one of those procedures that you always want to double and triple check before you put everything back together.
Of course if you have a distributorless ignition system, like most modern cars and trucks, then I suppose you also could have damaged a crank angle sensor or just forgotten to plug it back in. If thats the case then the ECU will through out a code though and that is easy enough to check. I assume you have a code reader of some kind.
