SOURCE: no heat

As for the fan your blower resistor is in need of replacement.
To address the heat problem I'll need to know a couple of things
1. Does your vans temp gauge read in the normal range or is it running low(after you've driven it for at least 10 min
2. Is the out side temp really cold?

SOURCE: Engine temp. in 2003 Astro van

Typically newer vehicles run at a normal operating temperature of 195 degrees to 205 degrees. if anything it's running a cold, which would waste fuel.

SOURCE: 1996 astro van brakes are mushy. Is there a

I have the same Astro and the same problem. It has surprised me to learn that it is the read drums that are the culprit - shown to me by my local Les Swchab. For some reason they build up with dust and do not grab properly. So the solution would be to use a rear brake shoe that is superior to the type that Les Schawb uses!!! A type that produces less 'dust'.

SOURCE: does the all wheel drive lock in and out on my

This van uses a viscous coupling system much the same in function as the fan on your engine. There is a thick silicone fluid in a housing which is bolted to the water pump. While not mechanically locked, the thick fluid makes the fan turn with the engine.Your van has a transfer case which looks similar to a normal truck unit, but it has a viscous coupler inside ,not gears,so there is a slip factor between front and rear differentials. It is the internal friction of the fluid that drives the front differential, not a locked set of gears. Watch tire sizes, the difference in having 2 new and 2 used tires can cause a noticeable "drag".Always buy 4 tires of the same brand and size for your van.

SOURCE: heater/acblower fan doesn't work on

Hi, check fuse 12 first. If it is good, you will need to replace the blower resistor. The high speed relay is built into the resistor. The resistor is next to the blower motor and looks like the picture below. There is a connector in the resistor and the 2-wire connector coming out of the resistor attaches to the blower. The blower is usually under the dash above the passenger's feet. You may have to remove a kick panel to see the motor and resistor. Please let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

2003 chevy astro van w/AWD. AWD is not working at all.

what was your test to determine the failure ?
if you jacked up one end and the car didn't drive off the jacks , that is how an all wheel drive works
It has a differential in the transmission that allows the front axle to drive at different speeds to the rear ( same as one wheel on the axle will go faster than the other when going around corners)
it is used to prevent torque wind up in the drive train and destroying transmissions , diffs and drive lines
it has to have all 4 wheels on the ground so that the 3rd diff is not operational unless going over a speed bump or dips in the road
however if you have a 4 wheel lock for the transmission, that is different as it locks up the 3rd diff in the transmission making the car a 4 x 4

How do I repair all wheel drive in Chevrolet astro van 2004? hit a big bump in road. lost power. when I regained power I had no all wheel drive, thank you.

-first inspect all lines to and from tranny to rear drive.
-check all wiring and connection to and from drive components.
-Check connection between lines and connections to tranny and drive.
-check all levels.
-check for disconnect/broken linkage to the drive axles back and front (check for bent drive arm)
-check for cracked housings
The controller could be damaged - need to diagnose.
If that does not turn up anything -- take to a shop to have working drive members and work as they should independently.

its electronic solenoid inside the transmission you have to pull the transmission apart to get to it. starting with the transmission pan.you might want to use a transmission shop for this one.

I own a all wheel drive astro van and the front end is leaking oil and now the all wheel drive doesnt work

Hi there avalanche426, I am sorry to hear your dilemma. What it sounds like has happened is your Astro's front differential has leaked enough fluid to prevent it from doing its job. Try filling the differential to where it needs to be and see if it starts to work again. If it does drain the fluid and replace the gasket the is leaking then refill. If it still doesn't work after filling it back up it will be because too much damage has occured.

I just bought a 1999 chevy astro van AWD

i am not mechanic but realise logic control senses excessive rear wheel spin and transfers some torque to front wheels. try quick take off on gravel road to see which wheels dig in or have friend spot if front wheels are driving when they should be. could be simple corrosian at wiring harness. unplug and spray with contact cleaner and re connect and re try. this wont cost you anything.
