Question about 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Fuel pump failures every 5-10,000 miles

My fuel pump in my 97 Chevrolet 1500 pickup fails regularly. I replace the pump and everything runs fine for about 6 months.

Anyone had this problem.

Mechanics find no electrical or other reasons for failure. This has happened since I purchased the truck 6 years ago.

I doubt that it was ever the fuel system. The CATALYTIC converter sounds like it is plugging up.

Fuel filter location and how to replace it. Also replaced plugs and wires and fuel constumption has gotten worse any ideas?? This is a 97 dodge 1500 4x4 5.2 V8

the fuel filter on your truck is in the fuel tank, connected to the fuel pump and is a "fail only part" meaning it requires no maintenance. Fuel filter failure is unlikely, yet not impossible. more than likely your fuel mileage is the result of some other issue. How many miles is on the truck? is there any other symptoms with the vehicle, for instance: rattling, engine missfire, or lack of power? Is there a check engine light on? if so, Pep boys will scan the codes for free if you sign up for a free pep boys card.
hopefully this gives you a place to start......
let me know if i can be of further assistance.

After running fine, engine loses power, backfires, idles only

Sounds like you need to check the fuel pressure regulator. As far as the in line filter, it's located under the vehicle on the driver's side, behind the frame rail. I tend to over do maintenance so I change my fuel filter every 10,000 miles. I consider it cheap insurance.

97 chevy 4.3 liter no spark no fuel pump running.

4.3 and 2.8 motors have a ceramic module in the distributor. if you have alot of miles on the truck, and there is no spark, that module is usually the culprit. easy to replace with a nut driver and some dielectric grease. mod is located in the distributor when you take the cap off look straight dowm and its right there.
also check eec relay and fuse. that will also cause the prob.

Fuel problems 97 jimmy

Yeah, The fuel pump can go bad . The normal warranty on the pump is 12 months or 12,000 miles. This is very rare . I would check if the fuel pump had a lifetime warranty.

I would also check the ignition switch, and all the fuses to make sure the fuel pump is the failure.

Good Luck
