2004 kia seronto wont engage overdrive

Since the transmission is controlled by computer you must have the control module scanned or fault codes, you may need a new vehicle speed sensor or have a wiring issue to the transmission or to the sensor, and in rare cases if can be the transmission is mechanically defective.

2004 kia seronto overdrive wont engage

This could be several things. check the fluid level to be sure that it is ok. If there is enough ATF then the issue is with the TCC (torque converter clutch) or the solenoid that controls it.

O/D Off

That is the transmission overdrive indicator light. On the left side of the gear-shift handle, you'll see a small button marked "O/D." This is the button used to toggle between "Overdrive On" and "Overdrive Off." Push the button to turn on the overdrive. If overdrive was already on, pushing the button turns it off.

Overdrive will not engage.

Does the car have a button on the shifter handle somewhere to disable overdrive? Also, there is a plug on the transmission that must be plugged in to engage overdrive so check to make sure it is plugged in correctly.

Where is the overdrive button in a 2004 KIA Rio

Look on the gear shift just below the handle, it is just below the thumb button. It will be easy to feel but can be harder to see.

My overdrive light is flashing, what does this mean?

In many cars, this light means the car wants to use the overdrive gear but it has been overridden by the driver. If you have an overdrive button, try switching it on and see if the light stops flashing.
Another reason for the light may be that the transmission cannot shift into overdrive due to a fault. To be sure, check your owners manual and let us know if you still have questions.

I was driving and the orang light came on the dash board of my 2004 LX Sorento jeep. It is to the left on the dash board. what does this mean?

Check for the overdrive buttom on the shift lever, you may have simply depressed the overdrive button and that takes it out of overdrive until you push the button again. If that's not it, please describe the shape of the light.

Transmission problems

This is what my 04 Kia Rio is doing exactly. I was told that the TCM and Shift Solenoid "C" is faulty. Am trying to figure out how to go about fixing that without paying more than the car is worth. My tech checked with the local Kia dealership and the TCM new is I think around $700. You also have to buy the program to tell this high dollar part what to do and that is right at $100. I have found that sometimes if I let the car warm up and then keep hitting the overdrive button, eventually it starts shifting correctly.
