2006 Grand Prix Heater blows cold air only


The blend door is probably what is keeping the air from blowing across the heater core and picking up the heat. I hope your manual gives a description and procedure for it.

The blend door actuator and other heater case doors will be either vacuum operated with a few canister diaphragms situated around the heater case, or they may be operated with electric motors. If you pull off the lower sound insulator panels below the dash, you can see the bottom of the heater case, and then find the actuator for the blend door. If vacuum operated, check for vacuum. The vacuum for the heater/AC controls comes from a single line from the engine, through the firewall, and into the back of the control head or to a control module. Then, many vacuum lines branch out from this central point to the canisters- the heater/AC controls will direct vacuum to appropriate actuators, or servos.

air blows out only defrost possible cause could be faulty ac and heater mode switch or broken vacuum line to ac and heater vacuum actuator.you have to remove ac and heater control switch to check it out.

What step are taken to remove a dash from a 1996 lincon towncarto access the a/c heater blend door actuator


what is the issue? May not be the blend door motor. Big job.

The climate control assembly has three control knobs (18519):
  • The airflow control or function selector knob controls vacuum and electrical applications.
  • The temperature control knob, attached to the potentiometer, controls the position of the A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616) mounted on heater air plenum chamber (18471).
  • The blower motor control knob, attached to the heater blower motor switch (18578), provides four speeds of blower motor operation.

A/C Electronic Door Actuator Motor Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Remove instrument panel (04320). Refer to Section 01-12 .
Instrument Panel Removal
  1. Position wheels straight ahead.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  3. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  4. Remove RF wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Section 04-04 .
  5. Remove retaining nut in radiator coolant recovery reservoir area.
  6. Remove bolt retaining front fender apron (16054) to front fender (16005).
  7. Position front fender splash shield out of the way.
  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Tag and remove wiring connectors.
  10. Remove retaining screw in parking brake control (2780). Remove parking brake control.
  11. Remove screw retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement (04502).









  12. Remove steering column assembly. Refer to Section 11-04 .
  13. Remove from the LH and RH cowl side trim panels (02345).
  14. Remove lower cowl side trim panels.
  15. Tag and disconnect wiring connectors in LH and RH cowls.
  16. Remove ground wire assembly.
  17. Remove retaining rivet in the passenger side of the instrument panel (04320).
  18. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel (04338), center and RH.
  19. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel, (LH).
  20. Remove and disconnect the radio chassis (18806).
  21. Remove retaining screw in the instrument panel finish panel.
  22. Position the instrument panel finish panel out of the way.
  23. Tag and disconnect the wiring connectors.
  24. Remove retaining screw in the passenger side air bag module (044A74).
  25. Disconnect the electrical connector to the passenger side air bag module.
  26. Remove and disconnect the instrument panel upper finish panel (044A90).
  27. Remove instrument panel to cowl brace retaining screw.
  28. On Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, remove screws retaining instrument panel finish panel (044D70) and remove instrument panel finish panel.
  29. Remove retaining nut on the instrument LH and RH lower finish panel.
  30. Remove instrument panel cowl brace (045D56).
  31. Disconnect vacuum hose on the harness assembly.
  32. Remove upper and lower screws retaining instrument panel finish panel to dash panel (01610).


  1. Disconnect the A/C electronic door actuator motor electrical connector.
  2. Remove four A/C electronic door actuator motor retaining screws.
  3. Remove A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616).

My 1997 ford f150 heater will not blow hot air. i have replace the switch that controls the hot and cold air. i do not know what else to do. i do not heat any vacuum noise when i switch it to the heater or...


first, check under te hood to see if the heater core water hoses are hot going in and coming out. If hot going in but cold coming out, water valve (if you have one) may not be working.

Control System Outputs
The air management doors are controlled by vacuum control motors (18A318) and an A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616). The air inlet and distribution doors are controlled by vacuum control motors. The temperature blend door is controlled by the A/C electronic door actuator motor.
The A/C electronic door actuator motor provides a variable number of temperature blend door positions. Temperature control position energizes the A/C electronic door actuator motor moving the temperature blend door.
Vacuum control motors are used on both air distribution and air inlet doors. The air inlet and panel/defrost doors use a two position vacuum control motor. The floor duct/panel door uses a three position vacuum control motor. Vacuum control motors are controlled by engine vacuum through the climate control head.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION A/C Electronic Actuator
Removal
  1. Remove the floor duct panel.
    • Remove the two plastic push pins (one each side) and release the expander clip.
  1. Remove the RH instrument panel brace.
    1. Remove the lower nut.
    1. Remove the upper bolt.
    1. Remove the brace.
  1. Remove the LH instrument panel lower nut and position brace out of the way.
  1. Disconnect the vacuum harness from the vacuum actuator.
  1. Remove the floor duct.
    1. Remove the two screws (one each side).
    1. Remove the floor duct.
  1. Remove the panel/floor door vacuum control motor.
    1. Disconnect the vacuum line connector.
    1. Remove the two panel/floor door vacuum control motor screws.
    1. Slide the rod out of the door and remove the panel/floor door vacuum control motor.
  1. Remove the electronic actuator.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    1. Remove the three screws.
    1. Pull down to release the actuator shaft and remove the electronic actuator.

I have just replaced my thermostat housing bleed the radiator and i still got no heating the thermostat is brand new


MAKE SURE BLOWER MOTOR OPERATING IF NOT CHECK FUSE AND RELAY.ALSO CHECK HVAC FUSE THIS CONTROL HEATER + AC CONTROL SWITCH AND MODE SELECTION FOR OPENING AND CLOSING HEATER DOOR OR HEATER CONTROL VALVE AND AC+ DEFROST AIR DOOR.IF BLOWER AND HVAC FUSE OKAY.IF YOU HAVE MANUAL HEAT CONTROL MAKE SURE MODE SWITCH IS RECEIVING VACUUM. either the AC\Heater panel switch on your center dash or the heater box vent door is stuck or not operating. Most likely panel switch or disconnected \ broken vacumm lines at back of switch

Need to replace heater core


big job, dificulty 8 on a 10 scale Heater Air Plenum Chamber Removal
  1. Remove heater outlet floor duct (18C433) as described.
  1. Remove instrument panel (04320). Refer to Section 01-12 .
Instrument Panel SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED Description Tool Number Radio Removing Tool 415-001 (T87P-19061-A)
Removal and Installation
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Remove RF wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Section 04-04 .
  1. Remove three nuts in radiator coolant recovery reservoir area.
  1. Remove bolt retaining front fender apron (16054) to front fender (16005) .
  1. Position front fender splash shield out of the way.
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Tag and remove main harness connector from jumper harness (located in front of blower motor).
  1. Remove steering column. Refer to Section 11-04 .
  1. Remove RH cowl side trim panel (02344) and LH cowl side trim panels (02345) .
  1. Tag and disconnect wiring connectors in LH and RH cowls.
  1. Remove ground wire located on LH cowl side.
  1. Remove RH instrument panel upper moulding (04268) and LHinstrument panel moulding (04389) from instrument panel (04320) by pulling away from instrument panel and snapping out of retainers. Disconnect wiring connectors as required.
  1. Remove glove compartment (06010).
  1. Remove instrument panel upper finish panel (044A90) and disconnect the A/C sunload sensor (19E663) and anti-theft indicator, if equipped.
  1. Disconnect the heater water hoses (18472) from the heater core tubes. Plug the ends of the heater water hoses to prevent coolant loss.
  1. Plug heater core tubes securely to prevent coolant leakage from heater core (18476).
  1. Remove one nut retaining the upper LH corner of the A/C evaporator core housing (19A559) to the dash panel (01610) .
  1. Disconnect two vacuum supply hoses from vacuum source. Push grommet and vacuum supply hose into passenger compartment.
  1. Disconnect wiring harness from A/C electronic blend door actuator.
  1. Disconnect the white vacuum hose from the heater and A/C air inlet duct door vacuum control motor (18A318).
  1. Remove nuts from the studs along the lower flange of the heater air plenum chamber (18471).
  1. Disconnect connectors to A/C electronic blend door actuator and electronic module on side of heater air plenum chamber.
  1. Remove heater air plenum chamber by pulling rearward.

Installation
  1. Route the vacuum supply hose through the dash panel and seat the grommet in the opening.
  1. Position the heater air plenum chamber under the instrument panel with the A/C register duct opening up and the heater core tubes down. Connect wire harness connector to A/C electronic blend door actuator and electronic module on side of heater air plenum chamber .
  1. Rotate the heater air plenum chamber up behind the instrument panel and position the heater air plenum chamber to the dash panel. Insert the heater core tubes and mounting studs through their respective holes in the dash panel and the A/C evaporator core housing.
  1. Install three nuts on the studs along the lower flange and one on the upper flange of the heater air plenum chamber.
  1. Install three nuts below the windshield wiper motor (17508) to retain the LH end of the heater air plenum chamber to the dash panel.
  1. Install one nut to retain the upper LH corner of the A/C evaporator core housing to the dash panel .
  1. Connect the white vacuum hose to the heater and A/C air inlet duct door vacuum control motor.
  1. Connect the vacuum jumper harness to the plenum harness at the multiple vacuum connector near the heater outlet floor duct. Install heater outlet floor duct.
  1. Connect the sensor tube to the evaporator case connector on EATC-equipped vehicles.
  1. Connect vacuum supply hose to vacuum supply.
  1. Unplug the heater core tubes and connect the heater water hoses to the heater core tubes.
  1. Fill the cooling system with coolant to replace coolant lost during removal of the heater air plenum chamber.
  1. Install heater outlet floor duct as described.
  1. Install instrument panel. Refer to Section 01-12 .

NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be pressure leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle. Refer to Section 12-00 .

  1. Remove the heater air plenum chamber (18471) assembly as described.
  1. Remove the heater dash gasket (18570) from the heater air plenum assembly.
  1. Remove the four retaining screws from the heater core cover (18B300) and remove the heater core cover from the heater air plenum chamber assembly.

you have to remove the plenum case behind the dash. I will provide 94 gr marquis. don't have 84.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Heater Core Removal

  2. Heater Air Plenum Chamber Removal
    1. Disconnect battery ground cable .
    1. Disconnect the heater water hoses from the heater core tubes. Plug the ends of the heater water hoses to prevent coolant loss.
    1. Plug heater core tubes securely to prevent coolant leakage from heater core during heater air plenum chamber removal.
    1. Remove three nuts located below the windshield wiper motor (17508) retaining the LH end of the heater air plenum chamber to the dash panel .
    1. Remove one nut retaining the upper LH corner of the A/C evaporator core housing to the dash panel .
    1. Remove LH and RH lower instrument panel insulators.
    1. Disconnect two vacuum supply hoses from vacuum source. Push grommet and vacuum supply hose into passenger compartment.
    1. Remove all instrument panel retaining screws and pull the instrument panel back as far as possible without disconnecting any wire harnesses.
    1. Loosen the RH door sill plate and remove the RH side cowl trim panel.
    1. Remove cross body brace and disconnect wiring harness from A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616) and disconnect the sensor tube from the evaporator case connector.
    1. Disconnect the vacuum jumper harness at the multiple vacuum connector near the heater outlet floor duct.
    1. Disconnect the white vacuum hose from the heater and A/C air inlet duct door vacuum control motor.
    1. Remove two hush panels.
    1. Remove one plastic push fastener retaining the heater outlet floor duct to the LH end of the heater air plenum chamber . Remove LH screw and loosen RH screw on the rear face of the heater air plenum chamber and remove the heater outlet floor duct .
    1. Remove two nuts from the two studs along the lower flange of the heater air plenum chamber .
    1. Carefully move heater air plenum chamber rearward to allow heater core tubes and the stud at the top of the heater air plenum chamber to clear holes in the dash panel. Remove heater air plenum chamber from vehicle by rotating the top of the heater air plenum chamber forward, down and out from under the instrument panel . Carefully pull lower edge of instrument panel rearward as necessary while rolling the heater air plenum chamber from behind the instrument panel .

  1. Remove the four retaining screws from the heater core cover (18B300) and remove the heater core cover from the heater air plenum chamber assembly.

  1. Pull the heater core assembly from the heater air plenum chamber assembly.
Installation
  1. Carefully install heater air plenum chamber assembly into the heater air plenum chamber assembly. Visually check to ensure that core seal is properly positioned.
  1. Position the heater core cover and install the four retaining screws.
  1. Install the heater air plenum chamber assembly as outlined.
