FIRST go to auto zone or advance auto and get the truck scanned to find out what codes are being set they will do it for free and you will have a better understanding of what is wrong instead of wasting $$$ money replacing parts and the problem is still there

SOURCE: Code #P0171 & code #P0174

The most common problem on a Ford with these codes is deteriorated PCV hoses. Check the hoses from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Pay special attention to the rubber elbows. They often crack on the inside curve and the crack is hard to see.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light 1996 Nissan Maxima

The best way is to use a scan tool to clear the codes, that will turn off the light, also disconnecting the battery over night may work, but no completely sure about that, it varies from year to year.

The intake manifold gaskets need replacement as well as the o-rings inside - if you call FORD they should be able to get you the correct parts.

SOURCE: Cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor

i will try to help. 171/174 indicates lean condition in engine. the mass air flow sensor is located in the rubber tube going to throttlebody. you can try to clean it. using mild carb cleaner safe for sensors, remove sensor from tube. spray clean the tiny wires located in the cylinder. do not touch them, they are very delicate. these engines are also notorious for leaking intake gaskets and faulty pcv valves. these will all set these 2 codes. feel free with anymore questions.

SOURCE: 1996 Nissan 200SX Speed Sensor

It is possible that this code can be caused by the speedometer head itself. The signal from the speed sensor is processed in the speedometer and then sent to the ECM. Check the two screws on the back of the speedometer to see if they are loose. If so retighten and drive to see if the check engine light comes back on. If they are tight, replace the speedometer assembly( I think you gave to purchase the entire meter assembly). If the light still comes on, which is unlikely, you will need to check the wire going to the ECM.

Looks like you need to replace the coolant temperature sensor for the computer. This will make the engine run rich all the time. You can simply check it with a scan tool with live data capability. With the engine warm read the engine coolant temperature. My guess is it will read very cold even with the engine warm. If so replace it and the truck will be running like new

I have a check engine light on. I had 2 O-2 sensors replaced and the next day the light came back on and it reads bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 1, engine running lean. I took car back and mechanic said...

Probably a faulty Mass Airflow Sensor. These have a high failure rate.Road test with scanner and watch the MAF readings under load, should be able to reach 120 grams per second. If the readings are low, replace sensor.

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger with a check engine light on. The code is P0171. Engine runs smooth and it has no obvious problems. Could it be the gas cap?

  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy LS Wagon. 2.2 Litre. I have been experiencing intermitent engine stumble that only seems to begin after operating at highway speeds for 30-60 minutes. Subaru dealer told me it...

If your vehicle has a MAF (mass airflow sensor), try disconnecting it and running the vehicle. If it runs ok ... suspect the MAF.

Commonly, a fault with the MAF does not cause an engine check light

Check engine light is on: engine idles rough

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE IAC (IDLE AIR CONTROL) MOTOR IS BAD OR GOING BAD, BUT THE QUICK SOLUTION IS GO TO ANY AUTO ZONE,OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS STORE, AND THEY WILL CHECK IT FOR FREE,& TELL YOU WHAT SIGNAL CODE MADE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON, I WOULD DO THAT JUST TO BE FOR SURE, BECAUSE THERE ARE A FEW OTHER THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE IT AS WELL,SUCH AS MAF SENSOR DIRTY,OXY SENSOR GETTING A BAD READING,ETC.
