Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My Honeywell HZ-306C model stopped working out of nowhere, help! It releases smoke and smells burnt if I plug it in and theres no more "click" that indicates when its on or off.

It was plugged into the wall when it stopped working. Ive been using it about 5 hours a day. Ive given it breaks. It has been working great before but as of now it stopped working. Whenever i try to turn it on it just releases smoke and stays on.

Just curious, I smell cigarette smoke from time to time in my home, and yet I do not, nor have I ever smoked. Should I talk to my Dr. about this?

I have heard of health conditions where people can taste or smell something that isn't there and it would do no harm to tell your doctor.

You could try taking a look at ehealth.com, which is a very good site with a bias towards things medical.

What you are smelling could be real due to the way your home is ventilated. Have you asked others if they can detect the smell?

There have been cases of strange smells, sounds or events and eventually it transpires some folk have had people lodging with them in basements or attics without them knowing.
There have been several instances where terraced or row houses have been built with a common or interconnecting attics and smells from one house is soon shared with the others. Sometimes I have read where a neighbour was popping next door to borrow some sugar, flour, money and suchlike without waiting for an invitation...

A large house nearby used to be owned by a doctor. After the doctor died the local authority bought the house and grounds for use as a Registry Office and wedding venue. The caretaker told me several times the house was haunted by a pipe-smoking ghost as late in the evening long after everyone had gone, he could always smell pipe smoke in a certain place on the staircase - but nowhere else. Smoking wasn't allowed in the building and no one who worked there (all female apart from him) smoked.

My car is hard to turn, it makes an awful noise and is smoking, it smells like burnt rubber, if i continue to drive it what will happen

Hi Debbie,
Not sure with out looking at it, But from what you posted if hard to turn
sounds like your power steering punp aint working , ant if smoking and smells like burnt rubber sounds like pumps locked up, (pully not turning) and if so continuing to drive it could leave you on side of road if it runs a cerpintine belt , that kind of belt runs every thing and if breaks water pump stops flowing water motor will over heat, you should realy have someone look at that for you.

Smell smoke only when defrost is on

This could be a serious problem if the smoke smells like plastic or has a metallic hint ( I.E. You have a metallic taste in your mouth after smelling the smoke).
Remember the old adage " Where there's smoke, there's fire".
If you don't know how to disassemble the dash to find the problem, take it to a shop A.S.A.P. - You could burn up your vehicle by using either the heater or defroster, as they are parts of the same system.
Now for the rear defrost light;
If the light is out but the defroster works, you possibly have a burnt bulb. You'll need to remove the panel the switch is mounted in to gain access to the switch. You'll probably have to replace the switch to repair that bulb.If neither work, then you likely have several electrical issues that need to be repaired.
Sorry to bring bad - ish news!!

Won't turn over at all

I would be checking for the main lead to the battery /starter to ensure that it has not burnt though on the exhaust or has not worn through and been shorting out. The clicking noise would ne the solenoid moving but the current is not getting to the starter. Check the condition of the battery. Shorting of the cable will take the current away from the electrics so the engine would stop. The battery will have to be load tested to ensure that it has not been damaged.

After changing thermosat car is now smoking a lillte from the driver side radiator area

Smoking where.? tail pipe end.?
over heats, when, moving at 60mph
or only stopped.?
if that smoke is during a hot running motor, and is steam
the head gasket blew (or worse)
oil smoke burnt lingers a long time, steam goes away fast like tea pot.
smoke smells like burned oil, steam smells disgusting sweet due to
the coolant is 1/2 Glycol.
over heating has many reasons.
only stopped?, bad rad, bad pump, bad stat, bad fan clutch.(or elect fan)
fails to over heat moving, usually is bad fan (action)
steam at tail is coolant burning.

Heater and aircon not working, loud rattling noise and smoke from vent, now not power to fan

It appears your fan itself burned out. When a field coil of an electrical fan burns out it usually makes a lot of smoke. The noise could be something that fell in there that stopped the fan from turning freely. I can imagine it heated up under the strain and burned out.

When you restarted it was burnt out so hence no noise and no fan.
The smell of the smoke should also be clue. Electrical field coils burning has an awful soury type of smell.
