Should be 2 small ones on the drive unit located on the side
of the gearbox or transmission!
they are not very long b4 they go to the loom connector!
you can test it by removing it from the driven gear that it attaches too then rotating the sensor one full revolution & it should give 10 [ten] pulses use volt meter !
dont forget to align the drive back up to the pin when you replace it!
if it all checks out ok it may be the drive gear in the gearbox!
Cheers Rob.

Vw golf mk4 abs warning light on

If your ABS runs thru clean upon initial starting of the car and only turns on when the car has been put into motion,
You have a vibration occuring near the wheel speed sensors that is tripping the ABS system up.
Is there any howling noise while driving down the road ( like the howl the tires on a truck would make , but more subdued), and it goes away when you are driving down the road and turn one way or the other?

My wv Golf Mk4 automatic does not change gears, mechanic told me it was the sensors, I changed them but still same problem. Also noticed the ABS light is constantly on

sounds like on of your speed sensor on on of your wheels is bad. It will have to be hooked up to a scanner to find out which one

Golf mk4 sdi brake light problem??

What colour is this light.
The Golf mk4 sdi certainly should have brake pad wear sensors front and rear and the light on dash for this is orange with a similar symbol to what you describe.
The ABS light is orange with ABS printed on it

I have a 1.8T golf gti mk4, last night is juddered as i was doing 70mph, i lost speed and was fighting the engine for speed/power, the engin management light came on and flashed for 3/4 minutes then went...

im willing to bet that you had a coil pack fail on you. they are one of the most common failures on the 1.8t engine. another thing i would check is for any boost hoses that may have popped off if you were accelerating quickly.

but before you go and buy a new coil pack. unplug your maf sensor and see if it runs any better than before. if the problem goes away when you unplug you maf then the mass air flow sensor is bad. but if its the same then you have a bad coil pack.

Starting problems golf mk4 1.6 petrol

There is a part between the air intake manifold and the air box on your engine, it's usually black on a golf, will look like a 15cm tube around 80-90mm in diameter with a plugged wire leading into it, this is your MAF sensor or MASS AIR FLOW sensor and if dirty / faulty can cause an incorrect temp reading from the air intake and cause rough engine starting, this is a very common problem on mk4 golfs... the part is apparently cleanable, with isoprop alcohol, or I assume white spirit. the actual sensor needs to be removed from its housing for cleaning, and as always treat carefully... the part replacement, depending on where you go can be around $50 - $100 used or even new.... part number off the existing one on your car, try ebay as you can do well for price :) could be fouled spark plugs from rich fuel mix on bad airtemp sensor, could be a million things but the MAF sensor is one of the golden oldies I'd be checking first :) Goodluck, Chas

If the check engine light is on look at the faults. It could be a defective cam sensor, the timing belt might not be in the place, or a defective mass air flow sensor.
