Question about 1999 BMW 318 ti

1 Answer

My 2000 318i e46 aircon has an intermittent problem. The lights come on and the fan speed/temp adjustments work - however the fan has now stopped blowing. The last week or so it blew at speeds unrelated to the indicator. i.e on 1/4 speed indicated it was on full pelt. Now the fan has stopped all together, except once in a while when it will blast full taps and then stop. The unit itself functions as it should aside from the auto button which will switch on, but not off. any ideas?

Your question does not make sense, If you mean when you stop at stop signs etc it does not blow cold?
My answer in this case is that the electric fan's second speed for the aircon is not working. Get it checked

Its called the blower motor resistor!! This controls all circuits to the blower motor (a/c fan) and regulates speed according to the switch/fan selector. Some issues caused from a faulty resistor may include: some or all fan speeds don't work, fan cuts out, no power or intermittent power to the fan motor.

When you a/c works does it cut off on reaching the temp. If so decrease the rheostat and check. The compresor is developing a high back pressure and getting caught . This reduces the pressure and flow to reduce the cooling. You will need to confiirm if the compressor is having a bad valve, a filter, fault in the gas or gas pressure, block in the condenser. Try to reduce your fan speed and reduce the thermostat and check if the a/c cuts off. If the cooling gets better ,use it till your next overhaul, the check the entire a/ system for blocks in cooling pipe/condenser and refill correct gas. Hope the fan is working well when the a/c is switched on with no blocks in the condenser fins. Use a good spray to clean the fins too. Hope you try this out and hope it helps. Good day

Overheating toyota landcruise1999

I'd certainly check that the fan is working. If it overheats while traveling at a reasonable speed, it could be that the radiator needs cleaning out. The aircon will always increase engine temp but, while parked or driving slowly, the fan should counteract the coolant temperature rise.

Hi , this sounds like the hearter resistor has become faulty , other symptoms include the battery going flat due to the blowers opperating even when the ignition is switched off, hope this is of some help , regards mark .

Blower fan stops working and then starts again

My suggestion is replacing your wiring going to the resistor which is acdelco part number PT1231. I have had the problem of speeds 1,2, and 3 intermittently working while 4 always worked. Afterreplacing this part, all of my fan speeds work all of the time.

Engine idling varies depending on light or aircon is on/off

dude its normal for first start or cold start that the idle is ok but it must high than normal... its normal because the engine is warming up it self... when it gets warm, the idle speed will return normal idle... your engine is 1200cc, it has not much HP for a great load... and i know its a carburatored engine and its an old engine, your head lyt and a/c fan and aux fan and all the electrical system on your car, uses the HP of you engine and its a lot of load to the alternator driven by the engine to generate an electricity they need and thats why the engine rpm speed lowering down to dead and its shake. thats why when you use your lyts or all electrical, you engine is weakening... the best remede is adjusting you idle speed... its located behind the carburator.. its a small black knob.. just make a twist each eighter way and you'll find out if your idle rpm speed ts incresing or decresing.. just increase it and try opening your lyts and other electrical, if its still shaking then adjust it a little more
