But the 2013 is second generation and Ford based, but still TD4 or SD4

Freelander TD4 diesel has a chain (mega bucks), L series diesel (pre BMW engine) has a belt (plus a small belt for the injection pump). the K series 1,8 petrol and KV6, 2.5L also have belt's.

CHECK ENGINE LAMP ON. START DIFFICULT

on the chassis,driver side.Usually only one bolt to loosen.IT is inline on fuel line.You cant miss it it is about 2.5 to 3 inches in dia.,

have you change plugs and fuel filter

None. A TD4 is a diesel and uses glow plugs!

The fuel filter is under the bonnet, on the left side behind the engine bay fuse box. Adjacent to the 2nd low pressure fuel pump.

Hay..It's easy to find....It's in the rear left hand Conner under the engine compartment..Always replace it in to the order..because sometimes td4 will not rev above 2000rpm if the fuel filter got blocks...

you can fit a new engine and gearbox but i dont think another type engine will fit the gearbox
