, remove carrieir cover, Remove the spacer retaininf pin, push axles in and remove circlips on axle ends and pull axles. Then the ring gear has to come out, pulling the carrier brgs loose. The the pinion will come out from the rearend , Pushing shaft in. If you are not familiar with differentials, you may want to have a shop do this job. There are a few settings with shims that have to be done and a shop knows where to start and the fastest proceedure. The rear end has to come apsrt several times to get it right, or the differential will whine and growl.

SOURCE: Rear axle bearing replacment

Not 100% sure on that vehicle & don't have manual on it at this time, but will say very common that it does have "C" like clip at end of axle. Large pin comes out first, then push axle in slightly & remove clip, & slide axle out.

If you removed the pinion and only replaced one of the bearings that was a mistake. You need to replace both at the same time. Also since it is a Dana differential you should have replace the crush sleeve also as this set the correct preload on the pinion bearings.

It is more than likely limited slip... It should be same as others pull the spider pin out by removing retainer rotate diff. and slide pin down but do not completely remove. Push axle in and remove C clip.

you may have to break the adhesive seal around the flange . Rem,ember that you will also have to pull the drive shaft (axles) to the diff. To break the adhesive seal you may use a jack and lift a bit under the pinion flange while using something like a chisel to help break the seal

How to change rear bearings in 1999 mustang

Remove the differential plate. Once off you will see a large pin going threw the diff. Turn the diff until you see the bolt(remove it) that will let you pull it out. Remove the rear tires and brake system. Don't disconnect the brakes/lines, let them hang. Push the axles in, remove the clips that hold the axles, then remove the axles. Just a suggestion, I would replace all the bearings. The axles bearings and seal by the brakes, the diff bearings, and the pinion bearings. To do the pinion bears, remove the drive shaft, remove the big nut at the yoke. Use an air hammer or a hammer and punch to knock the pinion out. Replace all the races also. They also have to be knocked out and in. This job will take several hours to finish.

How do you change u-joints

No . it is not normal to have to this as the Cross is bolted to the pinion flange with 2 small bolts for each side. The drive shaft will slide out of the rear of the gear box normally or if there is a flange there unbolt the 2 halves of the flange and remove it . Some diff pinions have the same arrangement depending on the make and capacity of the diff and torque requirements
