The wire you found that was disconnected, was it at the gas tank or under the dash? Since it was under the dash I would say that someone disconnected it to stop the electrical system from shorting out. You hooked the wire and the short circuit back up. To fix, you need to find the short circuit. (Or drive with the guage not working)

I have a problem with the fuel guage. It reads full all of the time even after replacing the fuel guage sender?? But does drop to empty when ignition is off.

Hi Graeme, I'm Al the owner of Big As Auto Repair
Usually when a gas gauge goes all the to full even when the tank is almost empty it's because the wiring is shorting against something. It could be shorting to the frame somewhere or possibly shorting to another wire. First check all related connectors for corrosion and clean if necessary. If no problem found with the connectors, then you'll need to trace all the wiring for damage. For further assistance go to our website. Have an awesome day Graeme.

Fuel guage wont read

The wire to the sender in the fuel tank is shorted. If it was open or disconnected it would read full.

Broken trip gauge on 1999 chevy blazer

There may be a blown fuse causing the trip meter failure and quite possibly the gauge reading failure. since you didnt say if they went out at the same same it is hard to say but checking the fuses is a likely culprit for the first problem. it is entirely possibly that you fuel guage just stopped sending the signal up to your guage. this is known to happen usually only remedied by replacing the fuel pump as it is part of the wiring on the pump itself. that is unless that fuse is the reason it is bad. the other thing is the possibility of a broken/shorted wire that provides the signal from the pump to the guage good luck

1993 Buick Roadmaster keeps on blowing fuel pump/ecm in-line 20 amp fuse. Car stalled out in a parking lot, would not start, no fuel. Changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay. Found fuel pump/ecm...

Sorry to say it could also be a faulty ECM. The ecm uses circuit boards to provide grounds to a bunch of components and can short out internally.
Most of those components can fail and cause the same problem by causing a short "thru" the ECM. Things like injectors, O2 sensors, and so on.
I doubt you will find the problem without a book and some test equipment.

Fuel guage

the guage gets a earth signal from the sender ,, depending on the amount the guage rises accordingly ,, if the wire is touching earth any where the guage will go up to full,,,, disconnect the fuel sender and see does the guage drop,, it should if there is no short in the wiring ,,,,if it does drop you then have to recheck the sender ,,, if the guage stays full you have to check wiring for a short ,,,,, if you are able you could strip out the guage and disconnect the plug at the rear of it to make sure that the guage itself is not faulty,,,,

My gas gauge is always reading full why 1999 cavalier

Hi

The most likely cause is that the fuel sender in the tank is faulty or that the wiring to the sender is bad.

Less common causes are a faulty fuel guage or circuit in the instrument panel.

Test the sender as it is the most likely cause and easiest to eliminate.

First inspect all connections that are readily visible to insure that they are secure & free from dirt or corrosion.

Disconnect the fuel tank sender wire at the tank. The guage should continue to show full (ignition on). Ground the wire from the sending unit at the fuel tank to any good grounding point on the car. The gauge should go to "Empty". If it does this is a strong indicator that the sending unit is at fault.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Thanks

Fuel injecter fuse blow imeditaly when ignition turn on

sounds like a short in the wiring from the fuse and the fuel injector junction block. GM like most fuel injection systems control injector firing by the computer providing ground to each injector in pairs or individually. The fuel injector fuse provides power to the injectors using splices therefore enabling one wire to feed 6 injectors. A shorted wire at any of these wires will blow the fuse. On one rare incident I found a faulty computer caused the fuse to blow. A shorted injector will just cause a rough running problem due to the injector stuck either open or closed.
