Question about Honda Civic

2 Answers

I have a 96 Honda civic with power windows. The drivers window works fine but the other three either won't work at all or will go down but not go up again. We have tried changing the master and door switches as well as the motors with no luck. Any ideas??

All of the windows run through the master switch. Other than that there is nothing tying them together, so tracking it down should not be too bad...

Is it possible you have another bad master switch (bought a used one maybe?)

The only other issue could be a wiring problem, and near the drivers door since it is before the wiring separates.

Perhaps try opening and closing the door while you manipulate the switches (in turn flexing the wire harness where it passes from door to car) and see what luck you have.

CLICK HERE for your wiring diagram.

Intermittent problems would indicate a problem with the power window relay.

It is the ONLY thing they all have in common.

Thanks :D

One by one, all power windows stopped working in my 96 honda civic lx. How do you determine if it is a fuse, regulator???

If all the power windows stopped working it is most likely the fuse. There could be 2 fuses actually. One under the dash in the interior fuse panel and 1 under the hood in the fuse box normally located next to the battery or air filter box. Check all fuses and you should find the problem.

The power window switch on the driver's door of my 2005 civic hybrid for the right rear passenger window only rolls the window down, not up (the switch on the passenger window door works fine). I'm having...

If your window rolled down than means your window regulator is getting power. It's most likely your switches are bad.

When you use the down switch it supplies power to your window regulator. When you use the up switch it supplies power also but the polarities are switch which causes the window to roll in the opposite direction.

Sounds like your up switch is not making a complete connection to make your window roll back up.

For parts, check this LINK.

Good luck.

The window on a honda civic dose not have enoght power to go up, but it goes down fast

hello, try new switch, these power window motors seldom go out, i just replaced power window switches on a astro van, this lady had not rolled pass side window down in 2 years, put switch in a started working fine, if that dont work, you might have to replace window motor, get them at junkyard for 50.00 dollars. put them in is a different story.

My 96 civic passenger side windows will not roll down but motors work

If you can hear the motor spinning and the window isn't going up or down the gears on the motor or regulator might be stripped. Some vehicles use plastic gears on the window motor making it quieter however more prone to problems like yours.

Passenger side power window does not go down

I would start by locating the fuse for the power windows, if one side is working move to step 2. I have replaced window regulators on several american vehicles, the honda should be no different. Youcan order the power window regulator online on autopartswarehouse.com, or take a chance at your local junkyard. you will need to remove the door panel, start at the release mechanism inside, usually 1 screw with a small plastic cover. in addition, 1 screw in the grab area of the arm rest, also covered. at the bottom of the panel under the arm rest start to pry off the door panel, you can take it off with a flat blade screwdriver or flat pry bar. it will make a snapping sound. then proceed, there are about about 8-10 total clips. after this is done, you will need to un hook the power window and door lock connections. next remove the door light connection at the bottom of the door. remove the plastic lining as careful as possible. you will need to put this back on after you finish. usually there are three screws attached to the regulator and 4 screws, 2 on each side of the alignment tracks. in addition there are 2 screws holding the window to the brace that moves up and down. remove the window bolts first and remove the glass, then proceed with the rest of the bolts, then re assemble as you have taken apart. On the hondas I would say about 2-3 hours will be need for each window. Good Luck!!!

96 Honda Civic 4 door sedan back passenger window doesn't work with master switch on drivers front door but it does work with the button on the back door. Also front passenger window doesn't work at all...

the wires at the door jamb connector get brittle and crack and break, causing all manner of oddities. and it can certainly be intermittent. like your window rolls down with the door open, but does nothing if the door is closed. wires may need to be repaired or replaced with that molex style plug/connector in the door

Check to see if the wires to the windows are broke in the rubber hose from the door to the body where the door pivots.
