I have a 1999 chevy cavalier with the theft system light on steady. the car wont crank at all. all fuses check out ok fuel pump sound when you initially turn key on, and all the idiot lights come on as they should. However, the theft system is staying on instead of going off as it should. direct jump it from yhe starter and it starts and runs for minute then dies from fuel starvation. suspect activated theft system, but all the remedy recommended so far do not work. Any new ideas out there?
#1 remedy - turn key on until light goes off, then turn it off and start. The light is staying steady and not going off
#2 disconnect battery for 30 seconds turn key to on position, reconnect and start. - no.
My 2000 cavalier has done this for 6 months. You take your key out then open your door, wait ten minutes and the system resets itself and the car will start-annoying you bet!!!
My 99 cavalier is having similar problems only my idiot lights stay on after it starts...While trying to diagnos the problem I did learn how to reset the ant theft. once you try to start the car and it won't, the anti theft light should start flaching...leave the key in the on position for at least ten minutes until the anti theft light quits flashing...should start
i've done this too. now my starting gets drained, and had to replace it twice. i have left the door open with doing the ten minute 3 times thing and it get longer each time. this makes my engine timing off and goes through extra tries to get it back to starting and stalling. so i would like it permanently bypassed, out who cares. but its hell on my pockets. i'm a self doer. don't have hundreds of dollars for a dealer.
i meant starter gets drained
