2001 Mazda 626 sputters like it is out of fuel or spark

While driving, my 2001 626 sputters like it is out of fuel or spark. Pressing the accelerator usually gets it going again. Changing fuel filter and spark plugs did not help. A fuel system cleaner additive did not help, either. It appears to be getting gradually worse. No codes have appeared yet.

Could be a spark plug wire is wrong.. Just two that are almost right will make a vehical do that or the plugs could need a little more space adjusted in the gap. Or it could be a hose that is lose or has a hole in it.

Sounds to me like a fuel related problem. When heavy accelerating more fuel is pushed through the system. I would check the fuel filter, and its possible its the fuel pump, but usually once the pump starts acting up, within a few days it will go out all together.
