Question about 1993 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

Backfire thru tailpipe

We have a 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L 5 speed that makes a backfiring (a small popping) out of the tailpipe when you let off the accelerator. It used to make a big backfire but we changed out the O2 sensor in the manifold and it has decreased substantially but it is still not totally gone. Any other suggestions?

Have you checked your spark plugs and distrubratercap make sure that all your plugs are calibrated to your mfg. spefications, it seems that you may have a little timing problem also

1991 jeep wrangler new motor cutting out and backfireing and acts like it doesnt want to run? what could be wrong ? Fuel is getting to the motor! when it backfires there is a small cloud of black coming...

if it's been running less than a half an hour, it's possible that the lifters haven't filled up to pressure yet; it has to idle a while to stabilize. if it's not that, then look at your ignition timing and your firing order.

When the air temp. is cold motor cuts out and backfires at 55-60mph

Check intake air temperature sensor or MAF sensor. Also check MAP sensor and replace if necessary.

1993 jeep Wrangler 2.5l runs hot, backfires and dies

the overheating could be causing the backfires as the engine gets too hot
over heating can be due to thermostat being stuck in closed position.
cooler fan not running, or blockage of air getting through the radiator. not enough coolant water in the system, or some other blockage in the cooling system. also using the wrong fuel such as race fuels can cause engines to overheat and or not run smoothly.
I hope this helps.

95 jeep wrangler splutters, jerks, backfires during acceleration

The ECU controls all of that. When they start to go bad they do very strange things that are hard to diagnose. They run about $300 bucks of you do it yourself. They are simple to do. Shop around because it is an electrical component and many places wont warranty them but some places do if your lucky you can find one. I also would not rule out your timing or distributor. I dont know you or what you have checked but could be the rotor or could be carbon tracking inside the distributor. Even the slightest crack in the cap can mess everthing up.
