When driving it makes a whining noise. Just got it is something major wrong with it? Also when I turn to the left, like making a u-turn it seems strange. But makes no noise.

Recently developed a whinning when I first start to move

Where is the whining noise actually coming from .. engine/gearbox or elsewhere?
A whining/screeching noise could be a drive belt .. such as the belt that drives the alternator.

On a manual car it could be the clutch bearing making the noise until it warms up. Does the clutch make a noise when you depress the pedal? That's the thrust bearing .. the bearing that operates the clutch.

I don't think you have too much to worry about. If you had engine trouble there would be knocks, rumbles and strange noises at all speeds.

A whining noise is usually associated with something spinning/turning .. such as a pulley/idler on a drive belt or a bearing alternator.

Put your mind at rest - get a mobile mechanic's opinion.

2004 Saturn Ion standard. Is making a loud humming/buzzing noise. Sounds like it is coming from the front right part of the engine (where the belts are and alternator). It makes the noise when idle and...

More info - If it only makes the noise when the car is moving its probably a wheel bearing - if it makes a whining noise whether its moving or not it sound like the power steering pump is on its way out - it could be as simple as adding fluid - start the vehicle and while sitting there turn the wheel left and right - the noise should get louder and softer - if it doesnt - its one of the other accessories - a/c pump or the alternator itself -

1993 honda accord wooping/whining noise when turning mostly left. Power steering fluid ok as well as the trans fluid..

If your talking about a whining noise while driving over 20mph, it's probably a wheel bearing noise, I have written an article and created a video about wheel bearing noises, it will give you a better understanding of what it is and the noises it can make.

I replaced the 2.73 gears with 3.42's and it makes a whining sound, and a knocking noise. I've checked the backlash and tried putting shims in, but it still makes the sounds.

why not go to the local salvage yard and buy a whole rearend with same gears as original or new gears but remember to change the drive gear on the end of the speedo cable or you will have the wrong speed

Whining noise while accelerating in 1st gear

Check the idler and tensioner pullys for your serpentine belt. I suspect the whining noise heard earlier was due to the fact one was getting a bit stiff or rough turning. When you gave it that extra fuel, the sudden load may have finished it off. Sometimes they lock up, and sometimes they fall apart. Check those items first.
