I don't have a solution, but have noticed that my 2006 Liberty will do this after it rains.

The shifter operates in conjunction with the Ignition cylinder. My guess is, is that it is not unlocking the shifter when you turn the key. Some vehicles have a cable that automatically unlocks is, but i believe yours is electronic which means it is either the sensor in the ignition cylinder or the actual solenoid itself that unlocks the shifter.

Most vehicles have a slot that you can push your key (or small screwdriver or something) into and it will unlock the shifter, it will be on the shifter control panel near park on either side. It might have a cover on it that you just need to pop off (you could use your key to pop it off). Make sure you have the parking brake on or the brake pedal pressed.

    idiot?

most cars do not have that key hole option, no car has a cable that ublocks the shifter once the key is installed sorry, more than likely a brake pedal switch.

Why i cant remove my key with my jeep in park

Possibly the shift cable is worn out and the transmission does not completely go into Park. A broken bracket that holds the cable in place could be another reason. It must be completely in park before the key can be removed from the ignition. Just because the indicator shows that it is in park, does not mean that it is fully in park.

2003 jeep liberty sport tranmission problem?

I have found these shift solenoids to be a little temperamental

If you set your parking brake BEFORE you place the vehicle into park you should find you will not have this problem any longer

That is ONLY if you use your parking brake on a daily bases, otherwise do not try this because your parking brake may seize on you

Most of the time when a Transmission is about to go out the Reverse will go first. and it may only be the reverse that doesn't work for weeks to months before the transmission finally drops
