If it has a carby , service the carby
probably water or muck in the bowl blocking the main jet
check for full fuel flow to the carby

SOURCE: Oil light keeps coming on at an idle

ok. oil ight is probably nothing more than a faulty pressure switch. You can have pressure checked at same screw in port. 15psi is ok...just. very cheap to replace. Ign control module is probably the cut-out fault. You cant really test it; repair by substitution is the trick.

We have a Toyota tazz 1996 model 1.3l it is cutting out at robots when you stop but if you keep driving, does not cut out. starts straight away again when you restart though.

I would get a can of spray throttle valve cleaner and clean the gunk off the throttle blade butterfly and also clean the idle speed control valve.

My car starts but does not stay running

So many possibilities. It could be a fuel problem if it splutters then dies. If it cuts out straight away (no spluttering) would indicate an ignition type problem.

98 explorer starts then dies

Been in accident and repaired? Check all sensors are plugged in and all earth wires have been reconnected. Does it splutter and die or just cut straight out? If just cut straight out it will be a sensor/computer fault.

The car runs well until it gets hot ,it begins to loose power, then is stuter, then shut off. the car makes a coughing -like sound when it shuts off

could be your crank angle sensor to test .turn car on then let it warn up till it cuts out then tip cold water or hose for a couple of mins on the crank angle sensor then stop water and turn car on . if it buggard it will start as when the crank angle senors breaks or is on its way out it will start then idle for a bit then splutter run **** then stall with the cold water it instantly makes it cold again so it will start straight away and repeat the same process of stallin when warm

'97 540i spluttering & cutting out

best bet is to go get any codes that may be stored in the PCM. This will take alot of the guess work out of diagnosing it. Or remove the spark plgs and replace them.. If you have 50,000 or more this could be the cause but a code may tell you which one is the issue
