Question about 1996 Subaru Legacy

Rpms fall when backing off on throttle

When you leave of the throttle the rpm's drop. You don't slow down and neither does the engine, but the rpm's drop back to idle. Only happens in overdrive. thought it might be the speed sensor.

Where is the air control sensor in a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette?

It's called IAC - idle air control valve > Did the RPM'S stay at 2000 or drop back down ? The PCM engine computer controls IAC valve according to engine load . Put it in gear , turn on electrical loads , headlamps , A/C etc... an the RPM raise's up so engine will not stall . More then likely the throttle plate needs to be cleaned , they get gummed up an stick at higher idle . Quick Tip Throttle Cleaning EricTheCarGuy If the IAC valve were gummed up the idle would be low or erratic . On some engines a vacuum leak will cause high idle . Videos on youtube checking for vacuum leaks .

Gas pedal sticks on isuzu trooper

On the next "above freezing" day, force lubricant through the throttle cable and lube all linkage at the engine end and interior.AND BEFORE STARTING for the next while try depressing the gas pedal and make sure it is releasing fully.
If it ever gets stuck again SHUT IT OFF before you damage the engine with high RPM on a cold engine.

2008 pt cruiser problems. At idle with Air Cond on get frequent RPM drop. 50-100 RPMs. Withour Air Condition on car idles fine (no drop) Also can hear a single click sound when drop occures.

The click sound would be the air conditioner compressor engaging, the engine will slow down do to the additional load. If it idles rough you probably need to think about cleaning the throttle body.

2002 sl2 rpms very slow to drop when shifting manual transmission

Okay, check the TPS you installed for proper meshing of the components. Disconnect the throttle cable and feel action of spring for binding. Check throttle plate for carbon and dirt buildup, clean.

Now some TPS units have a slot on one end. This can correct the jump in RPM. Just slide the unit either way while the engine is running and see if it speeds up or decreases the idle position. Then tighten the mounts. There are some other adjustments possible but check for a bad intake leak.

This can be done with the engine running and using a spray bottle of water. Mist the seams of the intake gasket and around vacuum lines. Any change in RPM or stalling will prove there is a leak and allow you to fix it.

It is kinda simple. A air leak is like opening the throttle to let more air in. The engine will run faster. Correct the leak and the idle should be reduced.

2001 montana won,t runs about 2800rpms @70 don,t seen to be going into overdrive on adown hill slope when in overdrive with the shifter it drops the rpms down to 700rpms , and when you put the shifter into...

I think I understand the question. These transmissions are known for the 4th speed shaft shearing off the splines. 4th being overdrive. This won't let it shift into overdrive and also no engine breaking when you are coasting. In other words, when you are coasting your engine rpms will drop down to idle speed. So when in 3rd or drive manual, you do have engine breaking and the rpms fall slowly. The transmission is gonna have to come out to be repaired. I hope this helps.

My tuscon revs it's RPMs while I'm driving and the drops back down. It's happening pretty often. But check engine light doesn't come on

Clean the throttle interior and throttle plate edge. It is likely that oil deposits are lining the throttle opening and this causing the plate to stick so that when you press of the accelerator the throttle plate stays closed and then pops fully open leading to the is surge and slow effect.

The oil pressure on my 94 Trooper flucuates from around 10 at an idle up to 55-70 when I'm driving down the road. I changed the oil sending unit when I changed my oil thinking they both might help but I...

This seems pretty normal. So long as the pressure does not fall while driving, you're good.
When Idling there is very little stress on the engine, and it requires little oil pressure to maintain.
Additionally, the pressure is directly related to the rpm of the engine as the oil pump is driven by the engine. As the rpm increase, so does the pressure. The pressure should be stable at a given rpm.

The pressure on the high side is good. On the low side is adequate (idle). You did not say how many miles, but the only way to change this is to rebuild the engine with new bearings and seals. I don't think that's somthing you want to do. Sounds fine for now. Leave it alone.
Don't fall for a new oil pump. That is very rarely the issue.

92 Accord occasionally fluctuates it's idling between 1000 & 1500 rpms when started.

Unstable idling especially rising and falling RPM (Described as Hunting) can often be traced to an air leak in the inlet side of the engine. Unmetered air is being drawn into the engine causing temporary confusion in the management system which adjusts the fuel to compensate... this increases the RPM ... the engine then realizes that the throttle has not been depressed and backs off the fuel delivery. Thus dropping the RPM... this cycle then repeats.

If you can find a cracked, damaged or loose pipe then great!.. If not it may be a leaking gasket.
Which will be harder to locate.

High revs

being a fuel injected engine , there are many reasons this could be happening.
from the top , lets check the Manifold Absolute Pressure (M.A.P.) sensor , as it is easiest.
Find the MAP sensor , it has a couple a wires and a vacuum tube going to it and is on the firewall or fender support under the bonnet.
Disconnect the wire harness from it (small plug with wires).
If the engines RPMs drop to normal , replace the MAP sensor.
