Question about 1990 Plymouth Acclaim

1 Answer

1990 plymouth acclaim is burning gas like it was it's job. I have checked the egr valve, it is working fine, the fuel pressure is 30 lbs at the TBI, when I pull the return line off and run it into a jug, the pressure drops to 19 lbs, but it still runs rich. I replaced the temp. sensor to insure that it was reading correctly. The injector seems to be firing smoothly. Is there a definitive test for the fuel pressure regulator?

Change the mass air flow meter firstly if they are faulty then you will use excessive fuel.

Try a new fuel filter. If that doesn't work, have your fuel pump tested for proper pressure. Bad gas, injector partially clogged, bad fuel pressure regulator, bad idle valve, etc., etc. List is endless-gotta start somewhere>fuel filter and fuel pressure check. Also, have your engine computer checked for trouble codes-you need an OBD 1 scan. Walmart sells a code reader for around 25-30 dollars. Make sure it is the right one for your car. If any trouble codes come up, it should direct you to the problem. Good luck.

Fuel injection needs 20-30 pound pressure to fire the injectors. Try to check pressure before filter. If its low your pump is no good. If its ok then you have pressure drop after the filter. Filter on backwards or clogged.

sounds like your egr valve is stuck open. check for false vacuum signal to egr valve holding it open or for a plain old bad stuck open EGR valve.
