It only need to be replaced on a belt drive when the edges are frayed or the belt is cracking. A chain drive will need replacing when it begins to stretch, has to much play by moving side to side. If you live in a state that requires a yearly inspection they would normally notify you if it needs replacing. You can Google the year make an model for vehicle specs as to which drive you have. Timing chains do not need changed until they break or get so loose that they jump a tooth on the chain. But if you have a timing belt instead of a timing chain, it does need to be changed before it breaks. Replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles. Severe engine damage will occur if you do not replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles.

I have 131,000 miles on my 2007 Mazda CX7. Runs great, timing chain/belt has never been changed nor recommended to me by dealer (had fallout at 109,000) & just oil changes since. Preparing for 14 hour...

it should have be changed at about 750000 mi ,belt...and for the most part look things over your self even before u go check fluids, serp..belt, check for cracks ..proper air in tires ...and so on

I have a 2005 Explorer XLT with 66,000 miles.Is it advisable to change the timing belt at this time . The car is running great.

Does your motor have a timing belt or chain? If it is a belt and it was mostly highway running you should be able to get quite a few mor miles out of it. As a rule of thumb, city driving, jackrabbit starts, lots of cold weather driving(bellow -20f) and towing belt should be changed at around 80,000 miles. If is light duty driving 100,000 miles. If it is a chain you might never need to change it.

this car is not equipped with a timing belt, it utilizes a timing chain with an automatic hydraulic tensioner. no replacement interval! keep up on your oil changes and the chain should have a very long life!

60000 or 48 months on belt which is used on the 5VZ-FE motor. The 2RZ-FE and 3RZFE are chain and there is no clear information about changeing them as a maintenence. i hope this helps.
