Take the serial number of the car to a GM dealer and ask them to cut a key for you. You may need to provide proof of ownership.

SOURCE: REPLACE SERPENTINE BELT ON 1997 PONTIAC SUNFIRE

The auto parts stroe where you buy your serpentine belt can show you how it is replaced, if they want to...

There is an idler pully on the end of a spring-loaded arm that keeps the belt tight. You have to attach a socket wrench to the bolt at the center of the idler pully and rotate the spring-loaded arm away formt he belt to relieve the belt tension. It takes some strength tot do that so the socket wrecnh should be long enough to have more leverage, making the task easier.

Take a picture of the belt routing so you can install the new one the same way. Often the belt routing is shown on a small diagram under the hood, too.

97 pontiac sunfire gt 2.4 cylinder 1 missfire. just changed the plugs and the cat

Possible valve guide seals are leaking motor oil. The motor oil on the spark plugs can cause a misfire and a loss of power.

Starter wires on a 1997 sunfire

Sunfire keys are not chipped therefore there is no learning process that needs to be done. The 3 10 thing is a waste of time. The ONLY theft deterrent in this car is the starter cutout through the passlock sensor circuit. It may also cut out the fuel pump, I can't remember. Also you were probably damaging your starter by holding the ignition to start giving it power too long and overheating and damaging the starter internally. To learn a new key to a cars computer with a "chipped" key (not the Sunfire) you just turn the ignition to "on" then "off"....etc.do not hold it in start for the recommend amount of time.

Pontiac Sunfire 1997. Won't start.

When jumped off ,if it drags to start, have the starter checked, and if when jumping the car off,the starter turns the engine over real good, then the cables are most likely the problem, replace them.

Changed the dashboard in the 1997 pontiac sunfire,

It has an imobaliser problem, your vehicles key ecu and dash are all paired together and will not work with any other different parts, the solition is to either put your own dash back or fit the ecu and key from the donor car too.
