2005 Ford Freestyle compressor went bad, same mileage

I also have a 2005 Ford Freestyle, and also at 55,800 miles the compressor went bad. Not sure what to do. Goodyear repair shop said it would cost $1100-1200 to repair.

Get an estimate from a Ford dealer. Your problem may not take all the parts that Goodyear wants to put in. The dealer has recall info and may work with you to keep a Ford customer. You say your compressor went bad, but that may be the result of a problem and not the cause.
You can also try independent shops rather than franchises. But you may not know of any. Sometimes I ask at Police stations if I need help for reliable service places.

The problem is not with the A/C Compressor itself. The problem is with the scroll valve located within the A/C compressor. this valve becomes stuck at either the "open" position or the "closed" position and does not function correctly unless you are moving at high rates of speed such as like driving down the highway. Replacing this valve will fix the problem but do not wait to long as eventually the failure of this valve to function correctly will cause the a/c compressor clutch to fail which in turn which cause the serpentine belt to break. Then you are looking at having to replace the belt as well as the whole compressor unit.

I also have a 2005 Freestyle with ~ 40K miles with an air conditioning compressor which is "going" bad. At highway RPM, the compressor will operate sufficiently so that the system will produce cold air. At stop lights or city driving, there's nothing but hot air. I took the car to the dealer and a third party A/C shop; both said the compressor needed to be replaced. Bad news is that there are no replacement parts and there's a huge backlog of orders!
Do you know if this is a widespread problem? Maybe Ford will extend the A/C compressor warranty period?

Its a bad throttle body sensor. The original manufacturer went out of business replacing bad units. Should have been a recall.

Do I need to change transmission fluid on my 2005 ford freestyle

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.

No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.

Better install that compressor as SOON as you open the system, or you'll be changing two other expensive parts! Evacuate again, install oil, and refrigerant.
