The blue cap is the low pressure side. Trace the lines coming off the compressor, should be easy to find then.

The port in the larger of the 2 AC lines from the compressor is the port you charge at.

Radiator cap

find the coolant reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The cap on the reservoir is the radiator cap. There is no physical cap on the radiator itself.

I want to recharge my AC unit. Not sure where the refrigerant is supposed to go

You connect your refill can or system to the low pressure line. Here is the good news. The fitting on the refill kit will only fit the low pressure line connector. They appear as over sized Air fitting. Both High and Low pressure sides will have plastic caps on them but your coupling will only connect to the low pressure side.

Can I recharge the AC on my 1997 grand prix my self?

Yes, you can get a can of freon that has a blue hose with it, R134A freon. Look for the ac line in the engine compartment that has a blue cap on it, (the smaller line), not the red cap. Just push the connector on the hose on to the connection on the line. Have the car idling with all windows closed and the ac on at full blast. Do not turn can upside down or the liquid will flow into the system. While it is charging, shake the can every few minutes, or read the instructions on the can.
The best can to get is the one that has a small guage attached along with the blue hose.

Filler connection for AC need to recharge AC can't find in valve

I have a 96, 5 years difference is quite a bit, but I'm quite sure it was still the same in 98, oh well, hope it's the same as mine: You have to access it from under the car, the blue cap fill port is near the a/c compressor.

AC Recharge

Follow your line back from the AC pump, and look for a blue cap. About twice the size of a tire valve cap. That's your low side where you add.
