If the car ran until belt broke or was that far off and was tried to start then there are bent valves as this is an interference engine

I have a 2003 kia sedona van 3.5 liter that jumped time. I reset the timing put a new belt on it and it ran good for 35-45 min. Then it cut off, and wouldn't start back up. It has an OBD2 code for cam...

cam sensor fail can be crank sensor fail engine will run with cam sensor fail but crank it will not fire. also recheck the timing belt settings you fit the timing belt and run engine till warm then recheck the belt adjustment to make sure its in line and at recommended tightness.

Timing OK?

You did it the right way. If you tried to make a full cam revolution you would have hit the pistons with the valves. Put the lower timing cover and crank pulley back on. If the cam marks are aligned right and the mark on the lower timing cover lines up with the mark on the crank pulley, you're good to go.

I set cam and crank timing but no comp. No bent valves! Note, #1 piston no at tdc.at mark. Is one toth off.

I have run into this before . Volvo wants you to buy a special tool to properly set these cam's in time since the cam-drive pulleys are oil advanced . That's fine if you have up to $300.00 for the tool . I made 1 for under $20.00 . Here's How - Buy a 2in. by 7in. by 1/4in. piece of flat steel . 1 - Measure & mark 2in from each end (Length wise) . 2 - Measure & mark from the previous marks 3/4 in. towards center (Width Wise) . 3 - cut out space between marks (Finished product will look like a flat horse-shoe) . 4 - Put (flat horse-shoe) in a vise length wise (TABS UP) . 5 - bend each tab 1/8in.out from straight in line oposite directions (When done if you look straight down the lenght of the tool the tabs will make it apear the 1/4in piece of metal twice as thick)(1/2in.) 6 - Pull valve cover and look at the fire-wall side of the cam-shafts 1 side will be small half moon up(slots in cam will give the apearence of a small & large half moon) 1 small up and the other cam small half moon down . 7 - slightly turn the cams left or right to be able to fit tool in slots . 8 - With tool in place re-install cam-drive belt w/# 1 piston at TDC . 9 - adjust tensioner with very little tension against belt ( grab belt w/ tensioner tight above and below tensioner you should only be able to twist belt no more tha 1/2in. either way ) Bolt her down put her back together ( remove tool ) put valve cover back on & fire it up . GOOD LUCK!!! hope this helps you out .

How do you replace a timing belt on a 96 kia sportage?

its a long process. if automatic with ac you must leave radiator on. whick doesnt give you any room but take off the fan, fan shroud and big pully. remove thermostat, must replace termostat housing gasket! 1.99 at oreillys. remove timing cover and finally the timing belt. you must time it just right or will not start. left cam is INTAKE so the I should be straight up at 12 o'clock you;ll see a notch for each cam, right side is EXHAUST so the E should be straight up at 12 o'clock. move tensioner pully to the left and lock by tightening the bolt. as you hold the intkae cam in place have someone else hold the exhaust cam in place both with right size wrenchs. put timing belt on correctly and keep tension on belt. losen tensioner pully and loc it back in place. put every thing on and start.

Timing belt replacement

yeah you can do it without the special tools, i work at a dealer and i dont even use the special tools,,,once you get the timing belt cover off, rotate the engine till all the timming marks line up,there are notches on the timing belt backing plate and they match the marks on the cam sprockets, now thew cam all the way to the left is 1 then 2 and 3 and 4 being all the way to the right becarefull the cams have more than one number on them so make sure the #1 on the #1 cam is up and #2 on 2 cam and so forth, otherwise you will bend the valves and ruin your engine,,,the crank sprocket has a mark on it as well as does the oil pump to line it up youll see it thru the passenger side tire well,,,then remove the 13mm nut from the tensioner, its the one all the way to the left under the cam sprocket #1,,and then remove the belt,,,now when u put the new belt on start atthe number 2 cam sprocket and put it on ,,there are no marks on belt to line up so its very important you have all marks on cams and crank lined up,,,then after its on #2 go around the upper tensioner pulley between #2 and #3 cam and make it tight and wrap it on #3 and the #4 sometimes u gotta move the cam a hair to get the teeth to line up on the belt so it goes on but it will all line up perfect in the end, then go around #1 make sure all cam are lined up and belt is tight,,you can not have it off even a tooth,,,then go around #4 to idler and around crank on right side and on left side go around crank too,now i usually use small vise grips with very light pressure to keep the belt on the cams,so they dont jump,,,then pull down on the right and turn crank front 2 teeth and put belt on crank and then put crank back to normal spot and then all you excess slack should be right where the tensioner is at the left that you took off before, keep all the slack there,,,,and the put the tensioner on while holding the belt tight and then use a allen wrench and 13mm wrench to adjust and tighten belt tensioner,,,,make sure all your marks line up,,, osometimes if you havent done this before it may be easier to have another set of hands to help you hold thingss

You need to find the timing marks on both crank and cam pulleys, set it, then take of the belt ane dont let any pulley move! Put on new belt and set the tension of the belt.

Yes, try the cam shaft position sensor. Also the crank shaft position sensor. It is on the engine where it meets the transmision. Check the wiring.
