1986 ford f250 wont hold a charge

the alternator might be gone in it, either that or the battery is too old and the core inside it isnt doing its job, before spending money, if you can, try use another battery from another car or a friends car and try run it and see if it holds the charge, if its draining still and not charging then its your alternator, it will need to be replaced or rebuilt. only two things that will cause the battery to not hold charge.

F250 Diesel will not start cold . Has power to glow plugs for short time ,but will not start 1986 modle.

Hello philkatkiele: My name is Roger and I will help you. First thing you need to check is the glow plugs. They will need tested individually. Un plug all 8 glow plugs. Take a test light and hook end to the positive battery cable. Touch opposite end of test light to the terminal end of the glow plug. The test light should light. Touch all 8 glow plugs. Ant that do not light are bad and will need replaced. If glow plugs are burnt out then the controller will flash wait light to early or very fast. The wait light should be on for approximately 10 seconds. If al glow plugs check ok then I would suspect the glow plug controller as the problem. Also if the temperature out side is below 40 degrees the truck should be plugged in. This will help to make the engine start easier. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

They are not too expensive... If you are going to go to the trouble of removing them anyways , I would put new ones in.

Cant remove starter on 86 f250 -6.9 diesel

Try wiggling it in all possible positions. Is something in the way of its movement? Is it something that can be removed so there's room? Somehow, the starter can come out. Be persistant and patient. If you have moving, you're making headway. Are the bolts out all the way? Post your results. And feel free to ask related questions.
