Honda Accord 98 blinking 5 check engine light

You need an OBD-II scantool to reset the Check Engine light. Places like Autozone will read your codes for you but most will not reset the Check Engine light because of liability issues. You need to either purchase a code reader with reset capability or find someone who has one to do it for you.

this is a TCM (tranny brain) operated, A/T
so scan it, in this old car , it either scans with the PCM or
has its own blink codes, the TCM.
D4 means, TCM is Unhappy, please scan me for lastest news !
the engine too, is bad. but id fix that first because the tranny brain
uses,. 4 engine sensors to run'
so scan the PCM (engine brain) first. fix that first.

get all DTCs (errorrs) and most them,, here ill also lookup

Take it to Autozone. They will diagnose it for free, and they won't make you buy the parts there.

did you already run an OBD 2 scan?(free at most parts shops)

The check engine light comes on if there is an issue.But Honda also has preset the Check engine light to come on to remind you of oil changes.If you want to shut the Check engine light off.There is a Yellow Reset Button inside the Fuse panel.

check the speed sensor,if the computer doesn't know the speed it does not know how fast you are going ,so you won;t have peak performance

You cant solve the problem without knowing what is causing the light to come on. Run the car through a code scanner then you can get some help.

do you know how to check why your check engine light is on?

Im not sure if it is the same as my accord bc i have a 94, but if it is, all you need is a paperclip.

Check under your glove compartment and see if there is 2 blue electrical terminals. unplug them and link them with a paperclip. Your check engine light should start blinking. Count the blinks, making sure they all blink at the same rate. Some blink long, others short. Its like morse code. Then google the engine codes. It should give you the problem without spending the 100 bucks at a shop.
