SOURCE: timing belt broke on 1998 kia sportage, need the correct points

Hi, Just to clarify and clear things up, the motor used in the 1998 to 2002 Kia Sportage is actually the Mazda FE3 engine and it is a NON-INTERFERENCE engine.

For any an all repair information on any Kia vehicle produced you can access the KGIS system (Kia Global Information System), just go to www.kiatechinfo.com and create and account (its completely FREE). After you do this you will have access to all the Kia Shop Manuals, DTC Manuals, Recall information for your vehicle and more.

I just had the same problem with my Sportage and found all the information that I needed through KGIS. Hope this helps and good luck on fixing your Sportage.

The crankshaft pos. sensor is located on the left "driver" side of the engine on the bellhousing and is retained by a single 10mm bolt. The sensor may be tight,be sure to twist as you pull so that it doesnt break off in the bottom end.

there are only 2 kinds on EFI. (mostly)
the automatic clip on kind

the clip kinds are many.
some you just push a tab and it unlocks.
others a special tool to unlock them.
no matter, just look and you can see what kind it is.
lacking hex nuts. lacking lock tabs its the special tool day.

Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

Look on the shifter lever, just bellow the push button. There is another push button there. That's the one you press or depress to keep the transmission on 3rd. gear. Just press it again and the hold light should come off.

Removing fuel line from fuel filter

Hi, Fuel filters and some other hose connections on vehicles today use a clip mechanism that is easily released with a small plastic tool. These tools are available in most auto parts stores. They come in a set to accommodate different size hoses, and metal barbs. Simply put the longer end of the tool toward the fitting and press to release. Good Luck!
