Question about 2007 Suzuki Reno Hatchback

2 Answers

I seem to get an EVAP code after we've had a hard rain.

It doesn't show right away, but about 3-5 days afterwards if it is now very hot and humid and I run the air first thing in the morning, the check engine light comes on after I run the car for awhile. But not that you mentioned the gas cap, I've had that happen before where I think I've gotten the gas cap tight enough but apparently I don't.

There three electrical components that can go bad, A evap purge solenoid, and vent solenoid and a presure sensor. Any of the vacuum and vapor hoses can be leaking. I would not suspect cracked hoses for the age of your car. Has anyne been under the hood or have you swamped the car in mud or water. Spiders, and mud could clog the vent. An intake leak could cause a low vacuum signal when the evap is being tested. And as you said a bad gas cap seal could cause this. Also inspect the filler neck for deformantion or a crack. You just may have to take the car in and get it checked out

This could also be a vacuum line to the cannister leaking or the vent solenoid not operating. You can run a smoke test and determine if that is the cause or check the valve and vacuum hoses to the system. Also sometimes the gas cap seal will wear to the point it is not sealing properly and the cap needs to be replaced.

Lynda, If it is the 4.3 V6, they are prone to getting moisture in distributor which causes the symptoms you are talking about including the poof. You can have scanned to see if trouble codes are stored, you may get multiple misfire.
If continues doing this have cap and rotor replaced and if wires and plugs are old do them to. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My 2004 Alero has a problem when it rains. It won't start after it was rained and it seems to me that something is getting wet under the hood and causing this that I have to let it sit after it rains,...

I doubt anything is getting wet, but you could be right on a bad connection. You could have enough humidity in the air after a rain to cause a weak connection to fail completely. It could also be a faulty relay.
Someone would need to figure out if you are lacking spark to the plugs or fuel pressure when it fails to start, then track down why.

Try to check your fuel pump pressure, or replace the fuel pump

Trouble starting (on hot days?)- seems like a power issue, but battery and starter are OK.

You may be making this too complicated.
When the air temp is high, the battery can become weak. So a battery that tests "good' today may be "fair" when it is 90 degrees.
Heat and lack of water are the biggest killers of car batteries.
And a starter can take twice as much current to operate when hot than when cold. Dampness and humidity are also factors in electrical circuits.
I would disconnect the battery when the truck is going to be parked for more than a few hours until you find the problem. That way you will know nothing in the truck is draining it.
Also, you should have the output of the alternator checked. A failing alternator would not have anything to do with the check engine light on your truck. The alternator can be charging 5 amps which would be enough to knock out the battery light, but not enough to handle the heat and the load of running the ac. It should be able to charge 40 or 50amps at road speed when needed.
The check engine light and rough running stuff does not involve the starting system. Only the battery, starter, and cables.

When i come to a stop, my car doesn't want to accelerate. I give it gas and it barely starts moving, almost like the transmission is slipping. It has an automatic transmission, if I ride the gas pedal...

evap codes won`t cause the acceleration problem.the miss fire codes could cause this if the miss fire is bad enough repair the miss fire problem first.i assume that you have checked the trany fluid for level and condition.if this happens all the time from a stop then you could have a transmission problem with 1st gear activating from a stop.if the rpm`s rise and your not moving with the rpm increase then its a transmission problem.the evap codes will have to be cleared then the car driven to see what shows up again as some false codes can set other codes.

check the BAP (barometric air pressure sensor), rainy days mean odd Barometric pressure, so the sensor could be faulty, a simple multimeter can show you what voltage it is putting out, and replacing it on a rainy day might show you that it is faulty as well

The problem in the Jetta could very well be with the ignition coil. I had the same problem for a long time and tried the usual replacing plugs, wires, etc, but nothing seemed to work.

It ended up being the ignition coil which over time, managed to sustain very small cracks. Even a small amount of moisture would cause all sorts of problems.

I replaced the ignition coil and had no problems after that.
