What you describe sounds more like a worn out electic motor for the movement of the top. Most switches nowadays have very low voltage and amperage to them and the motor is actualy controlled by ground signals rather than a power feed. It is possible you will not light a test light at the switch, a digital multi meter set on 20 dc volts should show some voltage. You say you had to "help" the motor move the top, so I would start by checking the motor assembly for bad connections or failure.

I have a saab 93 1998,the power roof has just started to only open half way then decides to stop,if i gently push the roof it will complete its procedure, are there any sensors that may be playing up .?

Take a look at www.saabservices.com website, and click on convertible top issues.
There is a huge amount of stuff there, including diagnostics info at the bottom of the page.
The tonneau motor is the most common problem, and they sell them. Another possible issue is a bad 5th bow potentiometer. Good luck!

Started make a whinning sound i pulled over then it would not move. 2002 84,000 miles and was not acting funny before

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If the engine works but won't move then the problem will be on the transmission. Looks like you have a faulty torque converter. If the torque converter is faulty the car will not shift properly or won't move at all. I strongly suggest that you replace the torque converter and transmission fluid.

Hope this information was helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

sounds like somethings preventing it from closing properly. Check it well worst case you need a new convertable module. Cost money but better then buying a new top

93 convertible top wont go down

This happenrd to me the first few times after filling the tank. When the roof stops push the switch to up then back until movement stops then go back to down, eventually it will get rid of all the air in the system and the roof should start to work.

Lowering convertible top

There should be latches you have to pull first to unlock the top from the windshield. Pull down the sun visors, the handles should be under them. Then push the power top switch.
