I would look to replace tranny. This age of vehicle should have several available used at a good price compared to a reman or new. You probably could find one from a salvage yard for under $500 they would guarantee to be good and figure around another $500 to have it changed out. The average, depending on your location, to have one rebuilt or to have a remanufactured one installed is around $2500.

I think at this point a proper diagnosis & estimate of repairs would be wise from a reputable transmission shop. You can always say no, but check all options, such as rebuild, replace, etc. Good Luck. P.S. sometimes a used one is a bad idea as well, unless it's confirmed low mileage & well maintained.

I hit a rock on the front end of my Subaru Legacy 1993. I pierced the oil pan, not much else has little scraps on it. i live no more than 10 miles away from where this happened so i put gum over the hole...

in the oil pan(sump) there is an oil pick up pipe and a filter on the end of it. The pan being damaged the oil pick up was probably bent and hitting on the big ends or the balance of the crank shaft. have the pan pulled and check for damage on the oil pipe and pick up filter. Replace the pipe and filter as they will be cracked or fractured and in future will break and the pump will run out of oil.==engine failure.

When the a transmission solenoid is malfunction, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

I replaced the snap ring and retainer because they were both broke and still no luck with overdrive working

Overdrive would not engage at 35+ mph. Took trans pan off, removed filter, dropped valve body out. Found broken snap ring on overdrive servo. Removed and replaced snap ring. Opened valve body and found 1 of the broken pieces stuck in a valve. Replaced all valve body gaskets. Put valve body back in with 95 in/lbs torque. Put in new filter. Pan on with 120 in/lbs or 10 ft/lbs. Refill with trans fluid. Run through gears. Lower vehicle. Test drive.

Hi I got 6cyc with 4speed Auto.Tranny went slipping in high gears.Took pan off to replace filter found A pin laying in the bottom of the pan. Any ideas Thanks Mike

Looks like a part of valve body got loose, and have to put it back.
The only way is to go to the dealer and ask where that part belongs to.
They have a service and parts manual to check on that.

Hope that helps you out!
Thanks for using Fixya!

O6 mitsubishi lancer ralliart okay when i put the car in gear in each gear a strange clicking/winding sound is happening also i just hadd the clutch replaced this noise has gotten louder and much more...

Sounds like a gearbox problem. The clicking could be caused by a chipped or broken tooth on the input shaft, or cluster gear. The whining sound by failed bearings in the gearbox. Remove the drain plug, and drain the oil into a pan. Check the oil for sign of metal contamination. look for shing metal fragtments. If there are shiny metal fragments, have the gearbox checked by a mechanic it may have to be removed and re-built. I would not advise you to drive the car anymore until this problem is fixed to prevent further damage.

Loud noise if i hit the gas to hard in reverse

If it is like a grinding noise same thing happened to my car I took it in and told the dealer it was doing that and they took the pan in transmission down and metal was everywhere a gear was shearing off. If you hate your dealer take it to aamco or midas or monroe and have do a fee inspection.
Good Luck

How to get the timing right on an ford escort zx2 1998 my timing belt broke and it out of time and i need help to get it back into time with the 2 cames

On the zx2 the cam shafts over the valves have to be viseversa the nuges sould look different on both like one nuge sould be up one and directly across from it should be down make sure when you looking at the front of the engine that there is groves on the right of cam shafts, you should be able to fit a flat bar an a flat piece of metal in there to keep it aligened as you put the belt on as you look at the bottom gear behind the passanger tire there is a incrament on it that mark should be at 12 o clock using the gasket from the oil pan as the starting point sence the oil pan is at a angle make sure the incrament on the gear is at a 90 degree angle from the gasket on the oil pan put the belt on with out any thing moveing its easier to put the timeing belt on with it being on the bottom gear first and then puting it on the top two with out moving the cams or the bottom gear once on remove the metal piece holding the shafts in place and put every thing back together .
Note: if you have issues with the timing belt walking off the gears, then you may have a worn or tapered lower timinggear. The early engines had a two-piece design that was prone to this type of failure.

2006 F150 Auto Transmission makes a grinding noise

this is a dust plug and you may discard this; this plug will be in the pan if this is the first time the fluid has been changed it is very possible it could be causing the grinding noise also see if there is small metal shavings in the pan and be sure to put the magnet in the same place it was when you put it back together
