Pull the panel. The top pops off, the bottom usually has a couple screws to remove, then pops off. There is a clip to pull off to get the lock out. Also a plastic clip to pop off for the rod.

Use torx screwdriver to remove the two smaller outside torx bolts inside the tailgate. This will free the bevel around the latch handle. There are also two plastic pins that need to be pried out before the bevel comes completely free. Then remove the three larger torx bolts from inside the tailgate that hold the latch assembly in. When it is loose, use a screwdriver to open the blue/green plastic clips and free them from the threaded rods (right and left). Then use a screwdriver and some muscle to pry the fibre glass piece out enough so that you can pull the entire latch mechanism up and out from behind the fibreglass. It is a real tight fit so don't give up on it. Install the new latch mechanism and repeat all steps backwards. When the latch is in place with the two plastic clips attached to the threaded rods and the three torx screws are holding it firmly, you will have to use a needle nose pliers to reattach the wire spring to the top of the latch so that the latch mechanism resets. Test it before reinstalling the bevel.

1999 GMC Sierra truck tailgate release latches are broken and gate won't open?

If you remove the ring around the handle you will get a better view of the two rods that connect the handle to the outter latches. The ring just snaps in.I think a flat head screw driver from the bottom works the best.Once you have access to the rods you can push the inward twords each other to pop the gate.If the are broken out twords the tail lights then a thin flat head in the gap betwen the tail lights and tail gate should be able to push the spring loaded latches in to pop the gate, but you may need to borrow a extra set of hands.Well hope this helps.

Tailgate latch on my 2002 silverado is stuck in closed postion

Remove the molding ring from around the handle. Becareful not to break the taps that lock it in. After removing the molding you should see the handle mechanism. There is a rod coming in from each side (each one runs out the the actual latch). Make sure each rod is connected into the handle assembly. If it is not put the rod into the hole and find the retainer clip to keep it in place.

2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Glass Latch will not move on own.

Hello and welcome the problem is very simple to resolve first make sure you have battery power turn off vehicle open rear gate unlock doors go to rear gate and look at lock unlock again and push the Grey plastic lock trigger mechanism forward towards front glass close gate unlock again make sure lock is still in the position you just set it to and close glass it will the lock. Normally what happens in this situation was power was removed from your jeep and the rear gate was opened with no power running to electric lock so it stays in a set position you cannot lock the glass because there was no power in the electric lock I will lock once you reset it Hope this help. you need to remove the tail gate rear cover (i think it is a torx bit 30) and then manualy open the tail gate. more than likely it will need a handle, and two latches.
