Can you pinpoint exactly where your sound is coming from? Where it is the loudest? Probably you can have someone drive for you while you listen from all corners of the car to figure out where the noise came from. If the clutch has been changed recently could it be the wheel bearings? You may look also at the brake hub, the one which looks like a plate covering the inner side of the disc and see if is making contact with the disc. Other items I can think of are loose metals that may have been dangling over the CV joints that may cause the sound once the car is in motion. This is assuming that the noise is present regardless if it is pulling away or to the driveway. If it is only in one direction, you may want to open the transmission and check the gears and other moving components.

Time to get the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing replaced.
And on a car that old the pin or ball which the fork pivots should be replaced also.

"when do i change the cam belt on a peugeot 307 sw diesel"

usually you should do it for peugeot diesel at 122000 miles along with water pump and the tensioner roller that runs under the cambelt too. But to be on the safe side do it at 100000 and save the fortune.
It took me (DIY job) about 6-8 hours as i wanted to save 450 pounds.

peugeot and citreon cars do bite high generaly, it is hydaulic there is no adjustment. but it also depends on how high it is ?? does it slip if you slightly rest your foot on whilst driving?? they do have a problem with the bearings going through the cover as it is the same bearing as a HDI . but you woud notice this as a different problem. ie noise or vibration on pedal. call me for more info .. paul @ the clutch centre..01527 64440 07790438337

Peugeot expert 20 hdi

Hi, I have a 2.0HDI Expert which was doing the exact same thing as yours, blowing thick black smoke, sluggish and loss of power on gradients, a hissing sound and surging. I replaced the air flow meter but that didn't help. I was told to replace the turbo but a turbo expoert told me not to as it would blow white smoke if it was faulty. I was then told to replace the injectors but a diagnostic test showed them to be functioning fine. I was then told to look at the intercooler which had thick sludge at the lower left pipe. I replaced it today - Sunday 12th July and it is now driving like a new van. It now pulls me up gradients with ease in 4th and 5th instead of having to drop gear to get to the top. I got a replacement from Euro Car Parts for £147 inc VAT. To tell if this is your problem, look through the gaps in the lower section of the bumper at what looks like the radiator and look for sludge over the inside of the bumper and all over the pipe where it joins the back of the radiator (intercooler). Also open the bonnet and look down behind the grille for the same sludge. Hope this sorts it for you. Barry, Newtownards, Northern Ireland.
