Question about 2000 Buick Park Avenue

Need to access the heads up display control in a 2003 buick park avenue. Control is in overhead switch cluster with interior lights.

    The heads up display controls is part of the instrument cluster in the headliner above the rear view mirrow with the moonroof controls and interior lights. I need to remove that instrumet cluster and replace the heads up control switches.

    My question is how to remove that instrument control cluster?

The overhead console with the heads up control in it is able to be carefully pried out by the little slot/opening on the back edge of the panel the switch is in. Use a flat screwdriver and slowly work it out by gently prying on the little retaining tab up in that slot. It is a small pain to work the panel out once it swings down due to all the other switches in there as well. The homelink module does slightly get in the way.

A heads up display is information from the speedometer displayed on the windshield. This is a feature on some buicks. I guess you are talking about the overhead console and that is above the mirror. Go to a gm dealer parts department and get a parts diagram t help you.

The interior lamps consists of two groups, lamps that can not be dimmed and lamps that can be dimmed. This first group consists of lamps that may not be dimmed. This includes those lamps that may be manually turned on by placing the interior lamp switch to the DOME position, or by opening a door or a compartment:
• Door courtesy lamps
• Footwell courtesy lamps
• Instrument panel (I/P) compartment lamp
• Overhead console courtesy lamps
• Reading courtesy lamps
• Rear compartment courtesy lamp
• Roof rail courtesy lamps
• Sunshade vanity mirror lamps

Interior Lamps Dimming
This group of interior lighting includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group uses a combination of class 2 controlled illumination and incandescent lamps:
• Air temperature switch
• Cigar lighter lamp
• Door switches
• Driver information center (DIC) switch
• Headlamp switch
• Head-up display (HUD) switch
• Heated seat switches
• HVAC control assembly
• Instrument panel cluster (IPC)
• Memory function switch
• Radio
• Steering wheel controls
• Window switches
For the interior lighting to be dimmed the following conditions must be met:
• A low light level has been detected by the dash integration module (DIM)
• Headlamp switch is placed in to the PARK or HEAD position
• Ignition switch is placed in the ON position
Then all class 2 displays and all incandescent back lighting will be illuminated to the level set by the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch. When the I/P dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all class 2 displays and all incandescent back lighting respond from minimum intensity to maximum brightness.
The DIM supplies battery positive voltage to the coil side of the PRK LP relay in the rear fuse block.
When the I/P dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, then the instrument panel module (IPM), W/CJ2, or climate control panel (CCP), W/C67, applies a message to the class 2 communication circuit to the DIM. The DIM then applies a ground to the park lamp relay control circuit. This energizes the PRK LAMP relay and allows battery positive voltage to be applied through the DIMR fuse to the DIM. The DIM then illuminates the following incandescent lamps through the incandescent dimming output circuit:
• Cigar lighter lamp
• DIC Switch
• Headlamp switch
• HUD switch
• HVAC control assembly
• IPC
• Radio
• Steering wheel controls
The DIM also applies a message to the following class 2 controlled illumination components:
• Drivers door module (DDM)
• HVAC control assembly
• IPC
• Radio
The DDM will then send a message through the simple bus interface (SBI) to the RH front door module (RFDM). The door modules will then illuminate the following components through the incandescent dimming output circuit:
• Air temperature switch
• Heated seat switches (W/KA1)
• Memory function switch (W/A45)
• Power door lock switches
• Power window switches
The ground for these components are provided from the DDM and RFDM.
The following components are grounded at G200:
• Headlamp switch
• HVAC control assembly
• IPC
• Radio
• Steering wheel controls
The following components are grounded at G201:
• Cigar lighter lamp
• DIC Switch
• HUD switch

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous and the radio and heater control backlights have shut off simultaneously and now only the vent control and trunk release lights work.


I would take a look see at the ground circuits for the none working lights . The incandescent back lighting lamps are then grounded at G200, G301 and G302. You would need factory service info for the location of the grounds .Like this from buick

Right side of the I/P, secured on the underside of the cross car beam, behind the I/P compartment . The I/P compartment is the glove box ,don't know why they just don't say that . You could also check out the power and ground from the componet that's not working ! You can find factory like service info. from alldata

Interior Lamps Dimming
The second group includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group may use a combination of vacuum fluorescent (VF) illumination and of incandescent lamps.
• The door switches and the window switches
• The HVAC control head assembly
• The radio
• The instrument panel cluster (IPC)
• The steering wheel controls
• The heated seat switch
• The HUD switch
• The lift glass window release switch and traction control switch
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays (radio and HVAC control assembly), incandescent lamps, turn on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are on and the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions, all incandescent back lighting turn on at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. At the same time all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays dim to match the indicated dimming level. The BCM L fuse in the console fuse block, supplies battery positive voltage to the BCM. The I/P courtesy lamps supply voltage circuit of the BCM, supplies battery positive voltage to all the dimmable lamps. When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK position, the BCM will then dim the interior lamps to the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the driver selects a dimming setting by moving, the IP dimming switch potentiometer, all incandescent back lighting lamps are provided with a specific voltage. The incandescent back lighting lamps are then grounded at G200, G301 and G302. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, as well as all incandescent back lighting respond from Minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.
The driver may select parade mode by manually turning on the park lamps during daylight conditions. The front park lamp circuit supplies voltage to the instrument panel cluster, radio and HVAC assembly for a park lamp on input, and the displays will become full bright.

Make sure dimmer switch is in the off position, if it is, probable faulty door, or dimmer switch control or a short in interior light wiring.

What's involved in replacing muti functional turn singnal switch 1991 park ave head lights won;t come on at all beleive that switch is bad??


Fortunately your 1991 Buick is pre-steering wheel airbag...you will need to remove the steering wheel to gain full access to the "smart stick" Not to difficult with the correct puller...on loan from most parts stores...Hope this helps.

Need to know on a 2003 Jaguar X Type what fuse goes to the Fuel pump? The fuse box cover only lists the fuses by number.


The fuse box in the passenger compartment has the fuse you want, it is the F81 Mini 20 Yellow Fuel pump control module other fuses in that compartment are.

Interior lights will not turn off


My guess is, the dome light has a three position switch that got turned to "always on" when you yawned and stretched. Either that or the panel switch is turned to "always on." My roommate once had this problem and for weeks he disconnected the battery every time he parked. But when I drove one time, I noticed the panel light switch was turned on. Problem solved.
