Question about 1994 Ford Escort
On the engine there are reference marks and timing marks that have to be aligned, I start with the crankshaft I use the timing indicator on the cover and align it with the harmonic balancer on 0 degrees, then carefully remove the balancer. Then I align the camshaft by using the timing mark on the camshaft pulley and aligning it to it reference mark on the engine behind it, it will look like an arrow, when both are aligned i install the belt from bottom to top on the drive side first, then around the water pump and finally the tensioner. The process and diagrams can be obtained from autozone by asking for it, or by purchasing a Haynes manual, if that is not an option for you, I suggest the local library, they should have abook that covers your model car. Hope this helps, let me know
