You need the control module scanned for fault codes, this requires a dealer or a well equipped repair shop that knows Fords.

there's a solenoid block on the back of the 4X4 transfer cas that fails and brings the 4X4 lights on go to your dealer they should be able to fix this very easily as it is a common problem

You will need to look under the dash; these will lead to the transfer case at some point; that is where the sensor should be located. If not, follow any wires that may lead to the transfer case, transmission, or the engine compartment around the frame area, usually on the driver side.
