Where is the fuel filter located on a ML270CDI, and whats involved in changing. Do you have to bleed, or just remove the old and replace with new. Thankyou Glenn

Thankyou for taking the time to respond to my question, it is a ML270 2003. I have since found the filter under the bonnet, under the plastic covers covering the motor etc. One the fuel lines is clamped via a utilux style clamp, the other appears to just slide into the centre of the filter and assume an o ring or such seals it, it was or appears to have been held in place via a couple of poxy plastic clips, unfortunatly one was missing and the other broke as soon as I touched it. I will buy 2 new clips for $5 each and then attempt to fit new filter on weekend. I assume no bleeding will be required?
Thankyou again for the time taken to help me. Cheers Glenn.

Is it the insert filter for the pre-March 2000 model or the inline filter for the post March 2000? Both are situated normally in the engine compartment and replacing them takes about max 15 minutes. The insert is in a black round plastic box with two pipes coming out of it, the inline is a metal part usually covered with a holding plate but you will see two pipes coming out of it.

No bleeding required as the filter is sittuated above the engine and the fuel normally remains in the system, I replaced them few times myself and never had to bleed, Mercedes has a non-return valve in the suply pipe as well so you should be fine. If you will have any more problems supply the chassis number and I will gladly help.Cheers

HOW TO CHANGE FUEL FILTER 2008 GMC DURAMAX DEISEL PICKUP

Disconnect the electrical connector for the "Water-In Fuel" sensor from the lower end of the filter housing. Then the filter assembly simply unscrews like an oil filter. After the fuel filter is off, you must unscrew the sensor from the lower end of the old filter and transfer it to the new filter. Then screw the new filter into place. There is a screw on the top of the filter housing to bleed the air from the fuel filter assembly. Loosen or remove the screw and pump the hand pum on top of the filter housing until fuel comes out the bleeder. Then tighten the bleeder and start the engine. If you did everything correctly, it should start right up and continue running. If it starts the dies in a couple of seconds, then you must perform the bleeding process again. (SEE PICTURES BELOW)

Hint: Sometimes it is much easier to get to the filter through the right wheel housing. It may be easier to support the vehicle and remove the right front tire to get to it.

Car has been sitting in garage for past 10 years, on blocks. what do you recommend before trying to start? it needs new battery.

you need drain fuel tank.fuel tank probably need to be removed and cleaned out to remove all sediment in bottom of fuel tank.remove each sparks and label them.squirt some clean engine oil down the spark holes into cylinder bores to help lubricate cylinder walls and help seal the piston rings to build up compression.replace fuel filter.best to change spark plugs and wires.check all brake hoses they more likely old cracked. i would change brake fluid bleed out all the old brake fluid out of the brake system.also change power steering fluid and change transmission fluid and filter also change engine oil and oil filter.replace the antifreeze and all the coolant hoses and radiator hose.replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.replace battery and add new full tank of gas.you should be ready go. check ignition timing also.

I need "step by step" instructions on how to replace the fuel filter on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup. Thanks !

Here you go if it is a diesel:
A. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
The fuel filter is located inside of the fuel filter housing
1. Unscrew and remove fuel filter cap at top of fuel filter housing. To unscrew, attach tool to 6-sided hex center of cap. Do not loosen cap at outer edge. The fuel filter cap is designed to remove filter while pulling up on cap.
2. Remove O-ring from cap and discard.
3. The filter is retained to cap with little fingers. Carefully pry a couple of them off from old filter.
B. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
1. Thoroughly clean inside of filter housing, cap, etc. with clean diesel fuel
2. Fill filter housing (canister) with clean diesel fuel. NOTE: If you do not do this, you will have to manually bleed air out of system later. No fun.
3. Snap new fuel filter to bottom of cap.
4. Install new O-ring
5. Apply lihgt film of clean diesel oil to cap O-ring
6. Load filter/cap into housing.
7. Tighten cap to 25 ft. lbs. torque. Do NOT over-tighten.

How to replace fuel filter?

This post is a little old, but for those also curious, YouTube has videos on the Ford Escape, the sister vehicle to the Tribute. Fuel filter can be found at the link below:">

Where is the fuel filter on a turbo desail

Your fuel filter is mounted on the rear of intake manifold, under air cleaner or on rear firewall.
Just a little hint on replacing it, remove your fuel tank cap to release pressure or vacuum in the tank. I'm sending you a diagram the fuel filter assembly so it will make it a little simpler for you to replace your fuel filter. Start by removing the filter element nut. Remove filter element by lifting straight out of filter housing. It is not necessary to drain fuel from filter housing when changing the filter element.
Installation, ensure mating surface between filter element assembly and filter housing is clean. Install new filter element by aligning widest key slot located under element assembly cap with widest key in filter housing assembly.
Tighten element nut by hand. Bleed air from fuel manager/filter assembly. Connect a hose to air bleed valve and place other end of hose in a container.
Disconnect fuel injection pump shutoff solenoid wire. Crank engine for 10 to 15 seconds. Allow starter to cool down for one minute between cranking intervals. Repeat procedure until clear fuel is observed at the air bleed hose.
Close air bleed. Connect injection pump shutoff solenoid wire and reinstall fuel filler cap. Start engine and allow to idle for five minutes. Check fuel manager/filter for leaks.9df1ca0.gif

Fuel filter on a 6.2 diesel

You need to install an electric fuel pump to lift the fuel from the tank to the mechanical pump. You can turn off the electric pump after starting or use it when bleeding the lines after changing the fuel filter. You can start the truck after a few minutes instead of a few days. I know from experience and fought that problem for years.
