Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Vehicle has been stalling or engine cutting out at low revs over last fews days, thought it may have been fuel related. Now brakes have little or no power which makes me think that both issues are related and an electrical issue. Any thoughts?

If your cars fuel is not electronically controlled... try overhauling the carburator. brake problems? replace the vaccum pump assy.... then drain the air out of the brake fluid drain nipple located in each wheel your going to need assistance here.. someone has to continually step on the brake while u bleed the air bubbles on the fuel line.... when ur help feels the peda is getting heavy.... close the nipple and repeat the procedure on the other tires.... be sure to wear protective glass brake fluid burns.... good luck...

You aren't telling me what kind of vehicle you have, so I can only be generic on the advice I am giving. This sounds suspiciously like a failed coolant temperature sensor...the one that supplies coolant temperature to the ECM. When these sensors fail, they tell the ECM that the coolant temperature is about -40 degrees F. This makes the ECM send massive amounts of fuel to the injector(s). This can cause flooding on start-up, and will result in the need to feather and rev the engine at isle to keep using the fuel so it doesn't load up in the cylinders and stall the engine. It won't normally set any engine codes, because when the engine is in "choke" or "warm-up", the ECM allow a much greater variance in the sensor readings from the emissions sensors. It's a relatively simple device to replace and not too costly.

Is it my fuel pump???? Sorry will post a vid soon but the description is exactly what it does...

Locate the fuel pressure regulator and remove the vacuum line and start the engine, inspect, if vac port leaks fuel , replace regulator, provided your vehicle is equipped with a vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator.

2000 Lincoln Ls Stalling While in Motion

Check the water temp sensor. I'm not too familiar with Lincoln, but on GM vehicles a bad water temp sensor will tell the computer that the engine is cold causing it to dump more fuel than it really needs thus flooding the engine. The only way to start the engine is to open the throttle body enough to get the air/fuel ratio right so it will burn. If that doesn't work look at your EGR system to make sure the valve isn't sticking. It should move freely. If it's binding then it can cause similar issues, though not as likely.

Can you give me some more information? Does it run fine if you do not apply the brakes? This could be a failing brake booster and you are loosing vacuum when the brakes are applied....

Vehicle engine seems to stall at low revs or approaching a stop, been doing that last few days. Now brakes do not seem to have any power assistance. Any thoughts, think this is now not fuel related and...

check for a vacuum leak... the brake booster could be bad and need replacing.
check the vacuum hose that runs from the brake booster to the manifold. Sometimes they crack, leak, or get partially disconnected...the gromet on the booster itself as well.
Good luck...i hope this helps.

I am currently experiencing engine idle problems, i have recently purchased the vehicle and the engine has been fine until now. When i stop at junctions and the engine is idleing it seems to now and again...

You need to replace your IAC (idle air control valve). The IAC, like it sounds, control the idle of your car. When they go bad they will cause the low idle and stalling. The IAC is located on the throttle body and is usually held on with a couple of screws. It is an easy relatively cheap fix that you can take care of by yourself. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
