Question about 2005 Ford F-150

1 Answer

Most all electrical parts click off and on constantly, dash lights go off, a/c kicks in and out headlights will not come on in automatic mode, door locks will not work, dome lights will not come on automatically. When the engine is shut off headlights shut off and come on continually. This is causing the battery to run down and the lights are now going dim but continue to flicker. You can also hear a clicking noise that occurs when the key is turned on or off. The clicking is coming from 2 different places, behind the back seat on drivers side(rear quarter panel) and under the glove box. The engine is running fine for now, no problems yet and hoping for none! Can anyone give an answer to help me out? normal. Headlights will go completely out driving at night with the switch set in automatic setting, but will come on and stay on if it is put in manual position. Truck has 76000 miles. Have a ODBII tester and it does not show any fault codes. NEED SOME ANSWERS WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY.

Sounds like your light sensor is messed up. The sensor that controls everything on automatic mode. Good luck.

Sounds like just a bad switch, replacing it should solve the problem. however, check the ground strap that is attached to the firewall to give all the body electrics a ground. they get dirty and need to be cleaned,

Dash lights go off intermittently

I'm no expert, I recently purchased a 2003 vibe. I noticed the automatic headlight's sensors can be super-sensitive, about an hour hours before dusk they'll kick my headlights on (when the sun is still shining!), or sometimes when I go into an underpass, and then sometimes they'll realize it's light enough and turn themselves off. This would cause your dash lights to go to the 'headlights on' mode and turn the headlamp signal on, the intensity is controlled by the dimmer/dome light control on the left side of the dash. Check to see if the dimmer is down too far, as this could cause the lights to dim when the automatic headlights turn on. It's also possible that the dimmer is not working, thus no power is getting to the dash lights through the dimmer. Try testing it by starting the car in daylight, then manually turn on the headlights, then adjust the dimmer. Like I say, I'm no expert, just guessing because I've noticed it happen similarly on my Vibe, but my dimmer was at half-way, as I like it for night driving. Someday, I'd like to disable the automatic sensors and DRL.

Clicking noise

I believe it is the Lighting Control Module taht is just above the brake pedal. It controls your headlights, tail lights, alarm system, air bag on steering wheel and a host of other things It is $499 new, $250 from tascafordparts.com and much less used on Ebay or at car-part.com (look for page with * for cheapest price.) There are many different modules so be sure to get yours by part number on your module.
It should only click when you activate something it controls, like headlamps. And then it should click just once.
put your head under driver side of dash & see if it's just above brake pedal where the clicking is coming from. Do you have something electrical not working due to the clicking?

Under the dash on drivers side is the black box for the security system. If you look on the box there is a little red button. Push the button for a couple of secounds and it will click and stop your marker lights and dash lights from flashing. It is a stock anti theft part of the security system. Hope this helps.

Dome light stays on, power windows don't work... 1999 Jeep

Check for a broken 12V+ or broken ground wire in the rubber boot that goes from the drivers door to the hinge pillar. Had this problem on mine and found both wires broken from years of flexing when door opened and closed. Don't try to splice the break, as the wire is too short and is also brittle. Run new (same guage) wire through the boot and splice inside the door and under the left side kick panel.
