Question about 2000 Subaru Outback

Security light flashing continuously on 2008 Subaru Outback

How do I activate the alarm system = same thing I guess as deactivating the valet system. The manual is not clear. They only talk about "deactivating." When I follow the instructions to turn key to "on" and hold door "unlock" button down while opening door for 10 seconds, the horn beeps once or twice (with repeated trials) BUT the Security light continues to flash no matter what.

SOURCE: I have a Subaru Outback. The security light

I think you have to have the key in the ignition, and set to "ON" with the driver door open and holding the unlock button down for several seconds. At least that works on my Forester.

How can I deactivate the alarm on my car short term? Is there a fuse I can take out to make the alarm stop altogether?

If the alarm is factory wired, you may not be able to because it may set off the immobilizer and kill the ignition system. If it's after market then you need to either read the paperwork that came with it and learn how to go into valet mode or you need to contact the manufacturer of the alarm system and ask them. But they'll want to know model and serial number.

Locating valet switch for 2003 chevy venture

If this is a real factory alarm, you can adjust the alarm settings by following the instructions in the owners manual. To get an owners manual, go to the Chevrolet Owners website and sign up (it's free). You'll need your VIN. http://www.gm.com/gmownercenter/chevrolet/

What is the valet button located inside of glove compartment used for

It is used for programing the alarm, it is used to disarm the alarm without the remote, [in case remote is damaged] and it is used to put alarm system into valet mode, [service mode] valet mode is only really needed if the alarm has been programed for passive arming, [alarm arms itself].

Your main use for the valet switch, [if programed for active arming instead of passive arming] is to have a way to disarm the alarm if the remote does not work.

If your car came with the Prestige Alarm unit, there is a possibility that the alarm box got deprogrammed or burned, and left the anti-theft activated. Use the Valet Switch to deactivate the alarm permanently, and see if the car starts. For some reason unknown to me, it takes a couple of cycles of crank/ take the ignition switch off, crank again for the Valet Switch to work. In my 98 Accord, this micro-switch is installed in the left front kicker panel, but there is no guarantee that it will be in the same place in you accord, since it is a dealer installed option

2001 toyota rav4. how do you deactivate the alarm system so i can start the car. dont have the keyless entry key (lost it) just have a regular key. but there is a red button on drivers side to deactivate....

Followed your recommendation of holding the valet (red) button for 6 seconds. It deactivated the alarm system and I was able to start the vehicle. This solution saved me from buying another key from the dealership (139$) and a programming charge of (100$). And not to mention the time saved from towing the vehicle to the dealership. I can't thank you enough for time and money saved with this valuable service. Will be signing up with your service when I get back from Orlando.

After market auto alarm will not reset

Hi..
Is there 2 options to replace the Battery in your vehicle.
If you Don't have the REMOTE CONTROL.

1-- try to locate the VALET Switch. is used to activate and deactivate the Alarm.
Normally is located Near the Fuse box panel Inside of the car.
and some times on Left kick panel.
If you found the switch. Connect the new Battery and go inside of the car Turn the Key to ON position and Push ( Move the lever up or down) of the VALET switch.
Them try to start.

2-- Just With the BATTERY disconnected .
Go inside of the car And turn the Ignition Key to ON position leave it.
Now connect the Battery and the Alrm will NOT activate.
Go inside and try to start.
And Letme know.

I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya...

It sounds as though you are having a security (alarm) system issue. Does this vehicle have an aftermarket alarm installed? If you recently bought this car, it might have one that you don't even know about. Try locking and unlocking both front doors with the key. If the vehicle has a factory alarm system, this is the usual way to deactivate it. If that does not work, look up behind the dash on the driver's side. An aftermarket alarm system is usually pretty easy to spot as it'll have a bunch of wires connected to it that are usually wrapped in black tape and you can tell it's not factory installed. If this is the case, there will be a valet switch somewhere in the vicinity of the driver's kick panel. To turn the alarm off, turn the ignition switch to the on position and press the valet switch. This should turn the alarm off.
