Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

I own a 1998 gmc jimmy. the engine turns but it will not start. I checked for a spark at the coil it only sparks when the key is turn back to off. One of your guru told me it was the coil resistor on the back firewall. There is no coil resistor on the 1998 gmc jimmy. The coil is good,I am replacing the distributor cap and rotor and the module inside the distributor. I'm hoping this works any suggestions.

What you are doing is a good start. Once you do that, we can eliminate those two units as being the problem. One thing is there isn't enough power turning over the engine, but then again, you said that you didn't have spark at the coil and thus at the plugs while turning over and so this wouldn't be the problem. As long as the battery and the alternator are good, then you are on the right track. Let me know how this turns out.

My 98;jimmy will not start engine turns but will not turn on

check for spark at the plugs then check for fuel. if one of these are missing the car won`t start. common problem on some of these was the ignition module in the distributor and sometimes the pickup coil wires would break. another thing to check is the distributor cap and rotor for damage like a cracked cap or burnt through rotor. fuel pump were also common.

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy. It died while driving today. Had it towed home. It will not start. Have good fuel pressure and spark is yellowish. replaced coil and ignition module. Also swapped out ecm. tried...

I have replaced countless distributprs for this issue. also fuel pressure has to be abovr 50 psi or will not start needs 50 pdi to open poppit valves on injectors. also if the spiders ruptured will be to much fuel and won't start hook up fuel gauge turn key on till reaches max psi turn the key off shouldn't loose more tham 15-20 psi if it does suspect spiders leaking.

I have a 98 jimmy 4.3liter v-6. I have changed

Suspect the crankshaft/camshaft sensor may be bad which controls timing of both spark and injector firing. The check engine light should be on--rent a scanner, read any codes and pursue to repairs. Hope you installed the new distributor exactly as the old one.

My 95 gmc jimmy will turn over but won't start.

Are you getting fuel and check for spark and if all is well, then move to your fuel pump and if checks out okay , ignition module and pick up module and coil have checked out .

Engine turning over but not starting had same problem 6 mos ago replaced coil and distributor cap and button now doing it again maybe timing issue?

First check to see if you are getting a good spark,if it is firing good then check fuel pressure. It should be 60 to 66psi.

94 gmc jimmy turns over starts for a second and dies has 60 psi at manifold new fuel pump new filter new relays new censors

Buy a tester to see if the spark plugs are getting fire as soon as it dies put the test light on a spark plug wire and see if you get spark if you don't get spark test positive side of coil is there voltage? On the positive side of coil put test light on the coil and put the other end on a ground and see if you have power to the coil if not you need to locate the coil resistor and see if it's defective. Let me know what you find out. Also check or replace the oil pressure switch on the back of the block, as it will cause the same thing. Please rate if this was helpful.
