Question about 1996 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Wont start 96 ford explorer 4.0 v6 was running great . car was taken good care of. then one day it would'nt start coming out of the super market. acted like it ran out of gas. i sprayed quick start fluid in the throttle body and it starts right up in fact it will run if i keep spraying. i tried a new fuel pump relay. (nothing) same thing. i tried reseting the inertia switch. (nada) same thing. i had just replaced the fuel filter a couple months ago. my question is: how many fuel pumps does it have? i know ones in the tank. how can i find out for sure what the problem is? the check engine light is not on and there are no codes that i know of. help.....

CHECK SHRADER VALVE ON FUEL RAIL FOR PRESSURE. IT IS COMMON FOR PUMP'S TO GO OUT. YOU CAN HAVE SOMEONE LISTEN TO TANK FOR A BUZZ NOISE ON KEY CYCLES OR TEST FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR HARNESS FOR POWER. TRY KEEPING AT LEAST QUARTER TANK AT ALL TIMES TO KEEP FUEL PUMP COOL,SOME PEOPLE DRIVE ON LOW AQLL TIMES AND KEEPS PUMP HOT CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE.

I have a 96 ford explorer v6 with a pushrod motor and after we replaced the pushrods, the head gaskets, the valve cover gaskets and the fuses, the car will not idle. what could be the problem?

Have you adjusted the pushrods properly? Pushrods generally need to be adjusted after installation.

Not sure how to do this on this model, although I own a 94 Ford Explorer with the V6 4.0 Liter motor.

Basically, when a gas engine doesn't run, you check 4 things, and narrow it down from there.

1. Gas (Is gas pressure good, is gas flow strong enough?)
2. Spark (are all spark plugs firing properly? Is spark strong enough)
3. Combustion at each cylinder (timing, pushrod adjustment)
4. Air Flow (MAF/MAP sensor working? Air Filter dirty?)

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer that wont run. It cranks and if I give it gas it will start but it doesnt idle at the 500 it should idle at it just dies. Ive read about the IAC and taken a look at it, its...

clean the iac, and then replace it. if its bad. check vacuum lines and run some good injector fluid in tank, maybe the injectors are clogging up. but clean iac first to see if this takes care of problem.
