2000 Grand Am Gt 3.4 V6 keeps overheating, changed the intake manifold gaskets, anything else we should check?

Make sure cooling fan is working , check themastat , water pump .

2000 chevy venture 3.4l overheating


Have you replaced the intake manifold gaskets? These engines have a history of leaking intake manifold gaskets. Water leaks into the intake and is burned off in the cylinders. If the engine overheats enough times, you will eventually blow the head gaskets.

Start by performing a compression check to make sure you haven't blown the head gaskets. Then make sure the car is really overheating (i.e. check the temperature of the engine with a infrared thermometer (they are cheap at Harbor Freight).

If it is really overheating, and you've really changed everything else, you need to change the intake manifold gaskets. Be sure to get the improved gaskets from the parts store (they have a metal core with rubber coating).

Overheating. heater blows cold air. all coolant comes out overflow. I already changed the thermostat.


Lower Intake Manifold Gaskets good? Look for small build ups of oil around the LIM. Mine you could barely hear, hissing out can be pinpointed with a long straw or something similar by holding it to your ear and serching for the leak. Also may want to watch your weel hole to see of water pump is good. the system may also be plugged.

Loosing coolant almost as fast as its poored in. overheating


If your car has the V6 engine, the intake manifold gaskets are known to fail. they are plastic and the corners rot out . Since there is very little torque holding the bolts in place it doesn't take much for the coolant to leak.

WHITE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST. SPUDDER WHEN DRIVING


White smoke indicates water is entering the combustion chambers--look for leaking head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets or cracks in the heads, intake manifold, or block. this type of problem usually occurs after severe overheating of the engine. Probably, this is not what you wanted to hear, but----!! Good luck.

It may be the intake manifold gasket that has gone bad and you may be losing the antifreeze in your engine. Pull the oil dip stick out and see if it' over filled and look under the oil cap, look to see if there is any sign of antifreeze in your engine oil. Under the cap would have a milky brown sludge and under the PVC valve too, if there is then your engine is on it's way out if you do not repair the leak. Antifreeze is corrosive to the engine bearings and it's been know that as low as 1000 miles will cause the engine to go bad with antifreeze in the engine. The intake manifold gasket is known to go bad in the 3.4 liter engines till 2004 where they came up with an upgraded gasket. Good luck and keep me posted.

OVERHEATING


Normally it is the head gasket not the manifold gasket that causes overheating, it does it by cracking and allowing water from the coolant system to be blown out of the exhust or get dumped into the sump.

When you start the car is there water coming out of the muffler

If not then dip the oil , is it like a thick chocolate milk shake

Final check is to take the cap off the radiator or header tank and see if there are lots of air bubbles coming up.

Any of the above means a shot head gasket

check the thermal switch for the second fan.disconnect the fan first and put 12v to it and see if it works.these are things i would check....fuse,relay, fan thermal switch(usually on the radiator,,and the fan itself.one fan is the cooling fan,the other fan comes on with the air conditioning.

1996 Pontiac Grand Am overheating


If its the 3.1L it could be your intake manifold gasket , the material used for the gasket does not react well with GM's Dex-Cool antifreeze. The leak may not be apparent at first, but I would pressure test the cooling system. If you look at the front of the motor by the belts , try to peek down at the intake manifold and check for slight seapage to an obvious leak.

If its either of the Quad-4's they were notorious for heads warping or cracking.
