How do you repair a 2007 Jeep Cherokee that is in limp mode with active DTC code P2747 and the input speed sensor 2 is bad?

My 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in limp mode with code P2747. The input speed sensor 2 is bad. I want to know if the input speed sensor 2 can be replaced or does the entire control unit need to be replaced? Can this input speed sensor 2 be replaced externally?

First off you posted to USA forum
i deleted my long answer, as you cant answer a simple question.
you wont tell country so , stop posting to USA forums.?

unless you can tell us
country
engine size,
gas(petro) or diesel (must we guess?)
2wd for 4wd?
and the exact transmission that you have and we don't. keep in mind USA DTC's and Europe are not the same. and our runs a TCM box, only for our cars.
lacking those facts,
then all answers will be wrong.

those sensors can be inside or outside the box.
facts.
i bet you never even looked for the 3/4 sensors.
under car, looked, only asked the blind here. sure.

i will do the NAG1, Mercedes. (worst case here)
ours does NOT use your DTC errors.
or sensor 2 sets p2767 (sensor 2 stuck high)
it;s buried deep in the box. (in this case, no pun)
here are the 2 NAG 1 sensors
drop pan first.

#1 and #12 or the 2 speed sensors in the HAG1 box.
so what box do you have... my guess in EUROPE??

http://www.jeepdied.com/nag1-pn.JPG

here is our NAG1

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/NAG1-WA580.html

that is the best I can do lacking all facts by you.

and we dont have even one 2007 Jeep Cherokee in the usa, none ! that is why I know you are not here.

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2016

or learn to go to jeep in YOUR country
    they ask VIN
then you buy it take it home and wonder then how to put it in.?
it will be obvious at that point.
or go online in your country to jeep dot xx
then answer those question you didnt here.
and bingo, see the part and where it fits.
    on trans.
    all ways from sunday, answered.

1999 Jeep Cherokee. The transmission will not shift past second gear. It is stuck in Limp Mode?

Yes, that is the whole idea of Limp Mode. It limits you to first and second gear so you can limp slowly to the nearest garage without causing catastrophic damage to the engine. What you need to do is connect a good quality DTC code reader scan tool and see the real reason that Limp Mode has been engaged.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. DTC P2767. Is the probable cause in the transmission or external?

the code means.
to do the tests listed in the fsm. book, not guess.
we do the tests, and find out if the cause in in the transmission
the TCM or the TCM sensors or the solenoid drivers or solenoids
or the actual transmission internals.
why guess? why ask folks to guess. who are blind.?
ever seen the book, and read , the chapter on A/t trans on car tests?
alldata.com or
free

i guessed drive line... so....

the book hints at....
- Faulty Input Speed Sensor 2 ,.is dead.
- Input Speed Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Input Speed Sensor circuit poor electrical connection

The Input Speed Sensor 2 is one of the two hall effect speed sensors that are used by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) to calculate the transmissions turbine speed. Since the turbine speed could not be measured directly, two of the drive elements are measured. Two input speed sensors are required because both elements are not active in all gears.

1999 jeep Cherokee classic. It will not go into 1st gear. It says it is the input speed sensor. Check gauge light comes on now. I replaced the alternator , input speed sensor and battery. Its over c

It says ? what says? the SCAN TOOL>?

non GRAND, (no engine stated, so fail there 1st)

my guess is you have a DTC and forgot to post that. why do that?

the DTC is covered in the FSM manual, and shows what is failing.

why not read the FSM and do what it says to do?

ill no attempt to read the FSM for you,. and that vague error.

why not log in to alldata.com and stop guessing. at parts.

there is no reason to gue$$

my guess at he DTC,

P0500"

or was it the P07xx series, all A/T errors.

P1xxx codes are factory code, got them? need all codes, not just 1 of many. and using a real scan tool not some POS autozoned junk (free)

p0500 is ASE jargon (best ) is VSS sensors.

vehicle speed sensor.

the transmission TCM monitors many inputs, and if they are bad

it can NOT shift, one such sensor is SPEED. MPH or VSS

the tail shaft all all 42RE transmission has a tail rpm sensor

when dead the cars speedometer goes dead, and the TCM

is at a lost to shift to 2nd gear, if speed is 0 all day.

a hopeless deal there.

if the battery voltage is not over 15v, its not overcharging, running.

99 is a nice jeep, id fix mine, ive had many.

the tranny has 2 speed sensors.

the front sensor does not do MPH, its just engine tranny input RPM

there are 3 RPM sensor

Engine, RPM called, CKP

tranny input sensor that tells the TCM true clutch slip at all time

and if the TCC works or not.

the tail shaft is the true speed sensor, vehicle speed, it\'s on tail shaft.

my guess, is the tail sensor is bad and you replaced the front sensor

P-0715 is a bad input sensor

P0720 and up are output sensor errors.

the 500 , is the 3rd sensor, the tail shaft sensor that runs the speedo

1st google hit.

http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?548105-P0500-Vehicle-Speed-Sensor-Malfunction

next time post real DTCs

so we can jump on the exact part and the simple tests

the beauty of 3 sensors, is the transmission runs better

shifts better

and the OBD2 diagnostics are dead nuts, accurate.

it can see illegal gear slips (bad clutch packs) in any gear

and tell you. one of the best there.are

if you had new car, with 9speed, good luck keeping that card house going.. really.

Location of speed sensor 96 Jeep Cherokee

which one?
if the rear transmission, it just is a conn, and 1 screw.
a 96 -2006 sure.
42RE transmission or what? there are 2.
why not post the DTC error so we can be on the same page,?
page 191 covers it here , under tranny

some cars have up to 4 speed sensors, 2 on engine and 2 in tranny.
so... guessing page p191 tail
there is also a backup sensor for that. so.....
post DTC error and WIN, speed sensors means zero.
my guys is net rumor told you trans shifts bad and is VSS bad?
or did you scan it and see a live error, DTC,
that be best, not rumors, (and do clean it and retest )

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't shift out of first gear and the fault codes are P0733 and P0734.

P0733=Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio
P0734=Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio,
your transmission is in "limp" mode,
Have the following sensors checked on the transmission, input sensor, output sensor, and speed sensor.
The transmission is not getting a signal from one of them,So it doesn't know how fast your going so it doesn't up shift.
