If you got battery life in it, ur starter is heating up let it sit for a bit.. give the starter a few taps with a hammer or screw driver.. it should get you going for a while and if not you should buy a new starter or rebuild ur old one

How do I know if my the reason my 2005 Grand Prix GT won't start is bec I need a new battery?

The clicking sound is coming from the starter. It could be a faulty solenoid, or you could be right about the battery. If the battery is too weak, the starter will not engage. A quick test is to turn on the dome light. If the dome light dims slightly when cranking and you hear the clicks it is probably the starter. If the light goes out or dims greatly, it is probably the battery. If the battery is weak, it is a good idea to have the charging system tested as well. If the battery is older than three years, it is probably just the battery.

Wont start new starter good battery

Even though my battery showed a good voltage it wouldn't crank the engine in my grand prix anymore. It wouldn't start with a jump box either. As soon as I put in a new battery it was fine.

98 GRAND PRIX WONT CRANK SOMETIMES

This is a trick some folks do to figure out if it's the starter. When the car doesn't crank, take something like a bat or a metal bar and hit the starter and few times. If the car starts right away then it's your starter, otherwise you might consider the fuel pump relay/fuel pump.

Grand Prix wont start

Antitheft failure can cause a "no start" situation. Look for a light in the dash that says security or antitheft. If you see that light, go to this link

i think it's time to replace the battery. have you tried to crank it after someone gave you a jump? if it starts than replace the battery. there's no real way I can tell you how to check the charging system unless the car is running.

I have a 98 grand prix 3.8L and sometimes it's hard to start. then sometimes going down the road the tach goes to zero and the speedometer starts swinging while the car is trying to stall.

If the vehicle cranks normally when not starting check the tach see if it is reading any engine speed. Sounds like the crank sensor is going bad very common fault on the 3800 series 1 & 2 engines. You must remove the harmonic balancer to replace the sensor.

NO START , COLD

have local auto parts store check the battery, it may have a couple bad cells, which would reduce cranking amps... would still have enough to run lights etc., but just not enough juice to start the car...
