Hi there good luck with it ,,,, this is what I did. It was going to take a week to order one from Schucks auto so I took matters into my own hand. I removed the valve from the car lots of posts on how to do this I then pried up the three double tabs with a screw driver marked the cap location to the body and carefully removed the top plastic cap. inside you will find two spade lug style connectors and the top of the plunger. this is a solenoid style egr. If you can push down on the solenoid and it returns easily great. the inside of the cap has a small plunger that is the sensor part. the solenoid should read about 7 to 8 ohms resistance at the spade lugs. the sensor should read around 3 thousand ohms and one of the terminals should vary between 3 thousand and 0 ish. If thats all good the problem you may have had is the electrical connection between the spade lug connectors and the two leads that point straight down from the black plastic cap. Give the spade lug connector a gentle squeeze with a pair of pliers and use a bit of electrical grease and carefully press the cap back down into position with the pins inserted into spade lug slots. reinstall and celebrate.

What is error code 0406

OBD-ll Code P0406 - EGR Sensor "A" circuit "High" .

The EGR sensor is part of the EGR valve, the valve has failled, need a new one, very common. The pintle sticks or the sensor it self goes bad either way install the new one, disconnect the battery to relearn the pintle position and you're good to go.

Hope helps.

The check engine light for my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan is on. The engine is a 3.8 V6 engine. The error code that it is displaying is P0406 or EGR issue. It is my understanding when you have an issue with...

I would clear the code and see if it returns. If the EGR valve is stuck open, it would make it buck or shutter. If the EGR valve is not functioning right, or clogged up, it will effect proformance. I would replace the EGR valve. I read that it's a common problem.

Engine code p0406 dodge caravan

Hi:
The P0406 code is set normally when there is a open circuit inside the erg valve sensor. this code is not normally related to a valve sticking open- this could cause a low speed or coast down stall.
I would take a screw driver and push the red locking clip sideways to release the lock and take the connector off and look for loose or pushed out wire terminals. reconnect the wiring and tap on the side of the egr valve several times .
You can disconnect the battery to clear the fault and test drive the van. If the problem does not come back after driving for 10 miles or so its intermittent . And not active at this time .
This code may not come back on until your trip is done. This fault will not cause the van to die in flight.
You can drive it like this if needed. The worst that can happen is excessive spark knock-pinging on acceleration . If it does, back off some on the gas pedal.

My Grand caravan displays fault codes P0401 & P0406 - Is the code P0406 indicating a failed sensor - Where is this sensors located - Thank you Dan

Off the top of my head I beleieve these are EGR codes, the EGR valve is located on the top front left side of the engine, you may need a valve and solenoid.

Code p0406 dodge grand caravan 3.8 engine. Is it the EGR valve or the O2 sensor?

P406 is a EGR code, EGR will also cause a knocking/ pinging sound when there bad. Very common problem. The position sensor inside the valve goes bad. Your going to have to replace the whole EGR valve and it can put out variety of codes from P0401 to P0406. The new valve will solve the problem and easy to replace, you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the EGR with common tools. Good luck and hope this helps.
