Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

I have a 1998 s10 4.3 checked on computer said both banks was running lean was told to change the oxygen sensor i changed both and its still when i turn it on and put it in gear its hesitates after a few moments its takes off

If you have a K/N filter the oil got the sensor in the boot dirty or you have a big vacuum leak some where off the intake. Inspect all the hoses and listen for hissing.

If you are lean both in bank 1 and bank 2, how do you fix it?


Probably is the Oxygen sensors are bad seems i had same problem a few years back and had to replace the sensor. Hope this helps

Check for vacuum leaks. if misfiring address the misfires as this will cause O2 sensors to detect more oxygen in the exaust system. Check you MAF sensor and clean if dirty

sounds like EGR valve and sensor this controls idle speed when at a stop. the po171 is a burn lean or rich code need to know what bank 1 or 2. also check for a vacuum leak from one of the hoses.

Check light on black smoke,fuel consumption,the scan read PO 171 please what is the problem.


Sounds like a faulty oxygen sensor, telling computer that engine is running lean, so it's dumping more & more fuel to try & correct it. Bank 1 oxygen sensor.

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust).

bank 2 that means the oxygen sensor on bank 2 is defective disconnecting the battery for at least 1 minute clear the code inside the computer but it douent repair the problem you have to change the oxygen sensor on bank call the dealer they gonna tell you wish sensor it is thank you for using fixya pierre
