Not unless you bend the tube. You will have to disassemble at least one U-joint--keep track of how it came apart and all of the little needle bearings in the cups on the end of the cross--keep everything clean. Fresh grease will help keep things together when putting it all back.

AFTER REPLACING U-JOINTS & HANGER BEARING ON MY 1995 VOLVO 960 I HAVE VIBRATION AT SPEED PARTICULARLY UNDER ACCELERATION. I TRIED ANOTHER SHAFT AND IS WORSE. I THINK IT MIGHT BE HANGER BEARING ALI

did you mark the two ends of the shaft at gearbox and diff
so they lined up again
with the center bearing replacement
did you mark the two halves before separating and replacing the center bearing
then make sure they lined up again

if vibration is there
you may need to go to a diff shop and have the drive shaft balanced properly

Have vibration ujoint broke at transfercase had to replace driveshaft with used one have vibration now whats my next step

Find a shop to balance driveshafts and replace the U-Joints. You either have a bent driveshaft or a balance problem or bad U-joints.

If you have the time, the only other thing you can do is mark the driveshaft and remove the driveshaft and clock the flanges. But remember that each flange is 180 degrees difference because most U-joints have a big and small bearing cap. So to get an effective 90 degree change just make the change on 1 flange and reassembly and try it.

This is why a company which balances driveshafts is a good idea.

Please rate my info.

Is a 2004 ford f-150 2wd carrier bearing.. ( mid-mount bearing ) on driveshaft replaceable, or do i have to replace entire driveshaft?

it is replaceable
normally it comes complete in the rubber mount
you will have to undo the drive shaft flange at the bearing
remove the drive shaft and take it to an accredited drive shaft repair shop or take the vehicle to an accredited drive line specialist shop
the repair will require that you place the flange back on the shaft after the bearing replacement in exactly the right position or you will get harmonic vibration after the job so talk with the experts first if you want to diy

We took our 05 equinox to the shop for rear wheel bearing replacements, the owner of the shop called and said the center carrier bearing was really really bad and he could replace it. We said ok to the...

That work should ONLY be done by a
Drive Shaft Specialty Shop ,that repairs
& balances lots of things, not just driveshafts

I will agree with you, as I don't know

But a dealer will sell you the whole deal,
so I never recommend them for even a car wash

There may be,just saying, don't know, a very few that
can't be repaired.

I would pick it up & personally take it to a driveshaft
shop & not pay anything for that part of the work
agreed to.

I never had those issues when i had my trans shop,
because I followed my rules & I was a machinist
before, so there isn't much I can't do

Flywheel,Clutch &Driveshaft Balancing & tire
mounting I personally take out of shop & stand by
to see the work getting done.

I have a 2007 Lincoln MKZ with the infamous driveshaft carrier bearing noise. My question is can the (front) carrier bearing be replaced alone instead of the complete driveshaft at a tune of 700 +...

First, I wouldn't be at a dealer

I mark all my drive shafts, as installed, and take
them to a driveshaft shop that, makes or repairs them

I have ALL driveshafts balanced

I have a Lincoln LS ,so I'm guessing your
newer MKZ is front wheel drive ??

Having once owned a trans repair shop, your
transaxle ,if that is what you have, will have to
be stripped clean, to do the bearings your talking
about

On a rear drive, such as my LS, you still have to
remove the rear differental case and strip it, for
brgs

The $700 sounds like a dealer fishing for a solution
to a rear wheel drive vehicle with a vibration

They try a new drive shaft, why not, only your money

How to replace a middle bearing in drive shaft of a 1996 chev silverado 2500

Replacing the mid-ship carrier bearing is not that hard.

You will need to unbolt the U-joints, seperate the drive shafts.
Unbolt bearing retainer. Take this to a good auto parts shop that has a machine shop. Tell them you need a new one and they will do the rest.

Driveshaft yoke balancer

I had the same problem and removed the balancer from the drive shaft this morning. I put the drive shaft back on, and drove the truck around all day, highway, city, stop and go, there were no problems, and the noise was gone, and I had no vibrations at all. So you should be fine if you remove the balancer.
