It sounds like your brake shoes are worn and you probably need a brake job, at least up front. It is difficult to hear those noises from the rear brakes unless you are applying brakes and something is close enough to the curb to reflect the sound so you can hear it, but they usually SCREECH. You practically sit atop your front wheels, and that is why it is easier to hear. Time for a brake job.

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

take a visual look under the car if anything loose. Any lights coming on? ARE left and right signals ok- sometime they make clicking noise.

I hear a loud grinding noise when i drive my car

Check front tyres & wheel bearings espesially the R/H/F. Feel tyre for high / low spots on inside & jack up & spin wheel if you get noise while jacked up it is not the tyres but wheel bearing or brake pads but more than likly a crook bearing by the sound of it. It needs to be tended to ASAP

My buick le sabre clunks when turning!!! left or right sounds on left when turning left and right when turning right!!

You should take into a repair shop and have them look at front suspension on your vehicle.Make sure and have a tech drive with you so you can show them the noise it is making. If you just drop the car off and tell them it is making a noise when you turn right or left they could be hearing a different noise. This could cause them repair all sorts of other noises and not fix your problem. There are a few moving parts in the front suspension. That is why it`s important make sure they are hearing the same noise you are.It could be something that is noticed right away or it could be something that you can tell what it is just by hearing it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

My 1995 Geo Prizm. I hear noise at the left side of the transmission where the drive axle enter the transmission not the usual clicking sound when the drive axle goes bad. The noise show up when I...

I would still suspect the drive axle because it could very well be the inner joint of the axle clicking and not making the accustomed noises related to a drive shaft noise. Thanks Megabuck
